I do not want to write about it, whether it makes sense 16 megapixels and a 16x optical zoom to obstruct in a camera of the price range (or not) ... I even take pictures with a D-SLR with 15 megapixels and preferably with fixed focal lengths , But the requirements for a compact camera are quite different and Sony has done a good job with the DSC-H90.
After I received the camera from Amazon, the Sony DSC-H90 was briefly tested by me (before I presented it).
The processing of the camera is perfectly fine, case feels high-quality, all controls feel "reasonably" to. Very good feel, even when compared to other cameras.
The camera uses a Li-Ion battery, which is not cheap as an accessory. Here standard AA batteries would be more practical.
The flash pops up motor, I think very good. He is further away from the lens and you can tell when the camera will use the flash.
Operation is simple. With the dial you can set the mode of the fully automatic with Scene Recognition on scene modes to manual settings the camera offers enough modes.
The fully automatic functions reliably, however, need to find a (brief) moment about the appropriate settings. Compared to get faster with the appropriate scene mode to (at least equally good results). In manual mode, however, the settings must be made somewhat more complicated by the menu.
The picture quality ... The lens is relatively faint (Aperture 3.3 to 5.9) and for the small sensor you just can not expect miracles.
Indoors should take pictures rather with lightning, otherwise you produce too much waste. The photos are neat, white balance and exposure suit with lightning. Depending on your taste you could take out a little saturation. But the results are all in the frame.
With the quality of the photos outside, in daylight, I am fully satisfied. Photos of people are good in portrait mode and zoom in slight telephoto. Person is quite well isolated with blurred background and treffendem focus (to the extent possible, one can not speak of bokeh). Here I was in my test shots which white balance, color and exposure does not concern expose. The JPEGs so you can use directly from the camera.
What pleasantly surprised me, was the image quality in portraits with cloudy sky and lots of snow in the background. The camera sets the flash for better lighting and the result to be proud of what colors and exposure concerns (not overexposed areas, ordinary colors, no pallor).
So in terms of software, Sony has done good works, the camera reliably finds the correct settings, and all goes pretty fast.
As for the hardware, so the lens and sensor, you get average quality. In wide angle and at maximum aperture the lens is not particularly sharp, and image noise is calculated away diligently, thereby go Details lost.
I still have an old Exilim with 6MP, which at that time was more expensive as the Sony, but brings out subjectively equally sharp images ...
But in short, subjective image quality is mostly fine and the camera provides usable images.
One should bear in mind how much the camera will cost. You get a great toy for your money and 4 stars are justified.
In summary:
++ Price / Performance
+ Processing
+ Flash pops up
+ "Intelligent" automatic
