Now after more than 9 months in I would use the camera and a friend now - but this a few notes or caveats:
- Travel suitability
If you intend to travel a lot, then stay away from it. Although you have the camera connected first with their own Wi-Fi, then this can be easily reset to the default settings. Thus it builds back to its own wireless hotspot and could serve on the go. Reach can here but to be desired and the real test of patience is the re-establishment in the same network as soon as you're back home. Especially with the basic configuration I find there software technically simple room for improvement.
- Delay in the sound.
I've noticed that when the baby can be heard in the app in the room are determined already 2-3 seconds noises. So there is a considerable latency but the tone - the picture is not quite as bad, but also a little of the resolution dependent (360p or 720p)
- Power consumption of the app
With us, the camera app is always running in the foreground - either the iPhone or iPad. The power consumption of the iOS (Android unfortunately I do not know) is quite remarkable. My older iPhone 4S is empty with the app in about 2 (! Two!) Hours, if it does not depend on electricity. When iPad mini 1st generation, it also takes no longer than a maximum of 5 hours (estimated) until it is then passed quietly.
Does the app but only in the background and there is enough in the meantime, only the sound, it's noticeably lower fuel consumption. Only what I have then a camera? ;-)
- Cloud Connection
The EyeOn like all current D-Link network cameras the ability to cloud connectivity, so you can view the image outside the WLAN range. Had I only tried so testhalber in shape. Whoever comes up with the idea in existing cloud connections a blue LED on the bottom of the camera to activate is a complete mystery to me. That may when using the round base - as can be seen in 1 Product image - do not bother, but when wall mounting the blue LED light so such that it would have to go through as a non disconnectable nightlight.
Since then helps only a tape ....
I personally didnt disturbed that there is no web interface for configuration or to display the image in the browser - at least not officially provided. It is possible, but at least, if necessary, a stream from the picture into your intranet integrate. Although it is not mentioned in any documentation, so the correct port was out try with filename already with something.
Finally, I still want to point out that the D-Link DCS-825L has often brought to the limit of my endurance in the first few weeks / months me. Others had the perhaps already returned, destroyed or resold. But after I am not really resentful, I would now classify even as "useful" for tech-savvy and enthusiastic people with a little patience.
Just plug and play, it is not - rather in good old Windows 9x style: Plug & Pray!
