Software:
Windows 8.1 was already installed, there was no update of 8.0 to 8.1 is required. The rest of the software, I left as it is. Only McAfee I will remove and replace it with a free-virus software. Windows 8 seems to have at least the advantage of being less susceptible to viruses than, say, Windows XP. While my daughter with Windows 8.1 is happy (as their smartphone) I'm waiting already on Windows 10 degrees.
Hardware:
Touchscreen: I do not need, my daughter uses it intensively (so the screen will look even from :-) and bursting of fingerprints). Brightness and contrast allowed at not too bright sunlight and a working outdoors. I myself have a computer with a matte display, the through lower brightness is not better as well.
WLAN: we could not see anything at first from a wireless weakness at home working the WLAN problems. The problem we noticed only over time, see update below.
Hybrid HDD: Windows starts as fast as on my Windows 7 computer with SSD. Thus, I consider the hybrid drive for a good compromise. In most other Ultrabooks with affordable prices 125GB SSD storage are installed. Available memory 60 to 70GB. This is clearly not enough memory. My daughter collects photos, videos and lots of music. Always lug around an external hard drive contradicts the idea of Ultrabooks. After the warranty I will possibly even replace the hybrid drive to a 500GB SSD memory, then they are also not expensive.
Touchpad and keyboard: Both poses no problems and fulfills its purpose well.
Connections:'m a fan of HDMI in the full version. Even otherwise, the unit is fully sufficient for me.
Processing: Overall, the unit makes a good impression, only the gap between the display and housing varies when folded at the front between 0 and 3 millimeters.
Maintenance: I just got on the Internet made clever. It should also be possible to replace some components such as hard drive, memory or battery itself. If you need to open the case with screws, so I think that's fine, because I do it so no this is not daily.
Update on 02/01/2015:
First the positive. It still apply all the positive statements of my original review and others, with the exception of the statement on the WLAN. The Ultrabook will start still within about 10 seconds has a good sound output, .... BUT: The data transfer over the wireless network seems to work only every few feet (2 to 3 meters) from the router, or there is another problem before. Therefore, a star deduction. Today I turned me to the Lenovo support, since I no longer really want to give up the Ultrabook. If all else fails, I'll try a WLAN stick for little money. I'll keep you up to date.
Updated on 03.05.2015:
The customer service was quick feedback on my description of the fault. I was asked not to perform some tests and then to send in the notebook for free. Until then, everything went quickly. At 23:02. I received a shipping confirmation by Lenovo, then the notebook remained missing. Two months later I received after countless urgent meetings with the support of consumer protection my money back. Therefore subsequently even 1 star deduction. Now my daughter has a far flawless ASUS Transformerbook.
