Nick is one of the most exciting main characters that I have ever experienced. Do not be fooled from the fact that he seems at first like a typical 08/15-Hero. ;)
The world and other people to see through his eyes is incredibly fascinating. Although he has an incredible number of poor properties and does many morally questionable things, I could empathize consistantly good in him and have always felt a lot of sympathy for him.
The relationship between him and his brother Alan is one of the most interesting, most beautiful sibling relationships at all. They are totally dependent on each other and are always on the thin line between pathological and totally pathetic (which I personally find incredibly great, but this may not be for everyone).
As the story unfolds, and how to develop the relationships between the main characters is really masterfully written - subtle, exciting, rich in detail and emotional.
I love nothing more than dialogue bodies and fleet've come here fully at my expense. But fear and drama are not forgotten. The plot afloat, thrilling and consistently evolving towards the grand finale and when one sits at the end with an open mouth, makes a sudden every little subordinate clause, every little hint suddenly makes sense.
The four main characters (Nick, Alan, Jamie and Mae) were very sympathetic to me by the Bank and its interaction always interesting.
The only thing I would complain about is that I'm not yet convinced of the potential love story, which (thank God only gradually) emerges. I think the strength of the author are clearly in the story between brothers Nick and Alan and their culture crash with the "normal people" Jamie and Mae. But well, so far it has not let me down and I'm really curious how it goes in the second volume.
