Lyrically is vorliegendes album a little power: punchlines ignite, Snappy is plenty snappy over and for a balanced, but not exaggerated pinch nonsense is finally also provided. Something daring than yesteryear usual one speaks again more serious topics - as once in the brilliant, in my opinion highly underrated early works al la CAFE PASSE or SPITALO FATALO (partly also a la carte). Although had in this regard also the infamous "Burli", the bitter-ironic auseinadersetzte with Chernobyl and its consequences, from the previous love, death & DEVIL actually a deadly serious background, but songs like "s'Muaterl" or "There is a house (in East Berlin) "(then highly topical because the Wall and the Iron Curtain had just fallen) actually trying not to be funny and say quite bluntly ugly truths (what you like already once in" was again occupied Burli "with transmission boycott - in "s'Muaterl" as the Pope and the Catholic. Church is shown very critical of what some broadcast stations did not fit into that stuff). Perhaps this is also just a support of my initially established thesis that mastermind Thomas Spitzer and Co. very confidently went on those days to work ...
The Hits, although really just make the lesser-known songs in my opinion this album "really good", but rather usual in nature (even blackish, but mainly still rather funny and blödelnd) and are also (how's that time but of this motley troop Super also might expect) still abundant: "Ding Dong", "One goes around the world" and "Samurai" are among the best-known tracks, the EAV has ever been cut down. You could probably call those songs with a clear conscience as classics of the band. While "Ding Dong" a witty and bizarre results in mind, what a fateful things can happen to you by careless opening the front door, is "One goes around the world" only a nonsense song about the greatest Ausbrechkünstler the world who - how's also in Text is - probably each have sprung / escaped. "Samurai" takes - again very funny - a really very serious (and morally highly questionable) topic: sex tourism. Skillfully the image of Mr. Maier is drawn here, which is at home discreetly and jammed in Thailand but ticks all the boxes and let you literally steals the show (which is why he comes with a sexually transmitted disease back home). Even today, a very topical and rousing song that was also musically very well implemented. Speaking of music - to which I would now like the same anyway ...
Enjoy the rest of the songs - more or less - fellow status, with the opener "Where is the Emperor?" music is for me the most interesting / most successful tracks on Neppomuk'S REVENGE, also the genäselte accent (Klaus Eberhartinger at his best) is great and fits just fine for the song. Only the production is to me almost too "pop". I know to a live version (of the "Neppomuk Tour` 91 ", which gave it time to VHS!), Which like much better. Lifting value would be in my opinion still the closing track "Gone", which takes melodic stylistic borrowings from Wienerlied (ie at more od. Less typical Heurigen songs) and controversial-cheerful treats the dying and death. Always reminded me of this song a bit like Arik Brauer, the yes once with "Geburn for Gruabn" (be sure to listen, fallst you do not need to know that) had created a masterpiece in a similar tradition.
"Arrivederci", the typical Italo-schmaltzy musical takes a bit of a bead (and content remains fairly inconsequential, if you are honest), the stomping-driving (great snare sound) "It goes no train" (basically a pure nonsense song ) and the allerweltskritische "Würschtlstand" (herein it comes to ozone depletion to the political upheaval in South Africa and clumsy, incorrigible Stammtisch philosophers) are nice accessories and adapt quite well to the album, what are proper classic thereby but certainly not.
Musically and technically sound everything is in the green zone, where my production the whole disc through a bit too "clean", smooth and pop is, to be honest. Yet one senses here in every song still some distance musical integrity, as unfortunately at the current EAV albums (so my I od now more. Less everything has come out after NEVERMORE ART) is no longer to be found. In other words: In older EAV songs it shows from playing, the sound here (aside times of singing), that it must be, be the EAV, while current song material mostly no more than cheap imitation current radio hit pop culture ( boring and replaceable) represents - unfortunately (and of course this is only my opinion) The SAB was / is just always more than the favored Blödel duo sharpener / Eberhartinger!. A Anders Stenmo (drums), Eik Breit (Bass) or Nino Holm (keyboards) were holding a considerable part EAV, which is not simply replaced (which now but never the actual musicians to decry - only is EAV just not the same EAV ). Ironically, there's from producing cheaper computer music and even a successful EAV song called "Hip Hop", which should appear at the follow-up album (WATUMBA). I do not think that the old EAV combo would have ever expected one day to caricature it a part of himself (seriously, listen to you earlier and new EAV productions and then trying times to refute this thesis). So, enough of that ...
Conclusion: Neppomuk'S REVENGE is the penultimate big throw a hugely influential and sometimes still underestimated österreischischen cult band and at the same time such a thing as the first spurs (in addition to the resulting practically simultaneously or in the Neppomuk tour WATUMBA that another year later to the market should come) a great era that was then at the very latest after NEVERMORE ART (1994-95) completely come to an end. The songs on this are mostly very good, some average, the producion is fairly smooth, but still far better than all that is there currently nachgehauen us under the guise EAV ". Also a sort of concept nature (as he did for EAV albums actually typically is) is given -. already own the sometimes very funny sequences (eg "Intro-rip", "Moses & the Red Sea", etc.) because of And the once very successful cover artwork leaves nothing to be desired (great booklet with cartoons, lyrics etc.).
Overall, this makes in my view deserved 4 stars. Love, Death & DEVIL I like all in all a bit far better (and what music production and concerns). Musically actually WATUMBA and (at least partially) NO MORE ART at least no worse (rather even better, I would think).
And yet Neppomuk'S REVENGE is through and through a great-EAV-album and one of the major achievements of the band. Therefore I dare utter a buy recommendation for all friends of Austropop.
Short summary: Intelligent criticism, mostly packed in funny and cheeky eloquence and easily accessible, not too exciting pop music, where one or the other time is also quite open angesungen many a thorny issue. However, it is still man-made, hand-crafted pop music (of course supported by many Studiotamtam) that the EAV has at least always been for me to what she was - a great, well-established band with a lot of musical sensitivity ...
As an Austrian (since really anyway) or German Speaking one should the board have at least heard. Actually, it is even a must buy. In any case, these are a real primal EAV album, which indeed guarantee in itself for a certain quality measure ...
