1. Connection via USB cable to the computer
Here there is not much to explain. USB cable to the computer and plug & play working properly.
2. Connection via WLAN to the computer / tablet / smartphone / ...
Here's a little note in advance. It's worth the hard drive, including all cables completely unpack before you start, because two different USB cable inside it. One thing is for direct connection to a computer (cable 1) and one for loading the hard drive (cable 2). Unfortunately, both can be connected to the outlet adapter.
Right here was my first mistake. I had cable 1 connected to the adapter, connected for charging and trying to connect with the wireless network.
What I did not know here, so it might not work because the WLAN of the hard drive is disabled generally in power over the cable 1. If the disk is disconnected from the mains, or with the right cable (cable 2) connected to the current work, the Wi-Fi. Now the WLAN appears as an offer to connect. Connecting itself works like any other Wi-Fi.
=> Connection to the panel via WLAN, but at the same time is no Internet access possible. For a solution, see Third.
3. Connection via WLAN and additionally normal Internet access in the home network
Yes, even that is possible, though not really intuitive. Once the wireless connection is established to the plate, you open an Internet browser and enters an arbitrary address. Then basically appears the disk menu in which further adjustments can be made. (It is recommended a connection password set.) Among others there is the menu Wi-Fi network. Here you can select its own home network and for password input connects the plate to the home router. This has the following consequences:
a) It has been quite normal Internet access (incl. e-mails to retrieve)
b) because the disk is now connected to the router, you can also access from other devices on the network to the data of the plate. In my case I have tested this with my TV. (Result: Both videos, and music can be played without any problems.)
Conclusion:
Are to provide the opportunity via WLAN with multiple devices simultaneously access the disk and WLAN enabled devices in general thus a massive memory expansion just super. But who needs only one backup disk gets in this product is just too much and might select a more favorable product.
A minus point is there for the little confusing ability to operate and the nested connection to the Internet when connected via WiFi plate.
=> 4 Stars
PS: Another little tip for all Windows users. You have to actively connect with the plate and possibly terminate an active Wi-Fi connection, it makes sense to Control Panel -> Administrative wireless networks, the wireless network of the plate at the top and the setting is automatically set to Connect. This connects your computer with the disk as soon as it is switched on.
