Tana French's new book is keeping in line with her previous three works. Another new character from the Murder Squad of Dublin Castle, Scorcher Kennedy, his private life and history intrinsically interwoven with his latest case. Broken Harbour, renamed Brian town by the Housing Industry, a hideous crime takes place. And it is up to Scorcher and his newbie partner to find out what happened. Tana French is awesome at revealing intentions and strategy behind police work. It is not the crime did she is all about but rather the people who get entangled in it. and again it's the detectives who get pulled down by the weight of it all This novel always hovers on the border of insanity, of imaginary animals. it draws its strength from secret admiration and from people hiding behind drawn curtains. A page-turner and a thrilling in-depth study of a country in recession, a country being swallowed up by the tides. Beautiful Irish English, fascinating characters and very multi-faceted characters. Maybe not as strong as "The Likeness" but still a scorcher!
