My skepticism was quickly dissipated when I had taken the two Monitörchen in operation and hearing the first bars of music.
It pays just from when you buy from a manufacturer, the only pro audio produced devices because the bar is set right from the start higher and not slam the PC Brüllwürfel producer who also has PC mice in the portfolio and just happened to stop also speakers offering because people like the mitkaufen equal.
The processing of black, slightly textured, plastic foiled MDF is good to very good and is quite sufficient even for specialist. The two stand positions (flat and aufgewinkelt) are brilliantly simple and solved only work because of Koaxtreiber where the Aufstellausrichtung not care. The exterior is absolutely no frills, no-nonsense, but quite elegant and understated, therefore, nothing unnecessary prettified the clear form, or doing cheesy or pretentious to important. Form follows function rather than vice versa. The converters present themselves rather than simple, non-intrusive device work because as a design object. I like it, but this does not have any / each appeal.
Back at the left box, there is a terminal with 2 x RCA RCA L + R in, alternatively 1 x 3.5 mm stereo jack in, 1 x 3.5mm mono jack out for connecting the right box, which is passive, as well as a rotary potentiometer for the input sensitivity (volume).
All electronics incl. Power supply is located in the left box, on the right there is just another 3.5mm mono jack for connection to the amplifier output of the left box. The connection cable is included, as well as a Y-cable 2 x RCA to 3.5mm stereo jack, 12 self Dämpferpads as feet and a Manual. In both boxes is a small, simple, passive two-channel diverter.
This, however, results in a small, concept-related flaw: The built-in electronics, the left box is significantly heavier than the right and has a little less internal volume, thereby also the lower limit frequency of the left box should be slightly higher than in the right. Aurally I can not distinguish metrologically it's probably understandable, but probably negligible.
Here lies the biggest difference to professional nearfield monitors, which have usually active crossovers and separate amplifier units for bass and treble, as well as customization options in terms offer on frequency response and preparation, and this individually in each box. But that is a different league and their price level is also much higher, partly an order of magnitude.
Prodipe marketed the small MS4C though rather than active multimedia desktop speakers, because as near field, but I say they are actually suitable for both applications and worth considering.
After a short break-in period they quickly lose their initial sharpness that startled me shortly. Thus, if the spring stiffness and restoring forces of the drivers are once well established, they play pretty neutral, crystal clear, enjoyable directly and activating, the music dissolves entirely of the boxes positions and forms a remarkable stereo stage with good localization ability, for as tiny monitors. This requires close formation, best in arms reach and orientation of the boxes on the listening position, thanks to the two tilt angle options works for you all the time. The coaxial driver arrangement as point source works belonging installation close without the disadvantage migratory frequency components on the baffle conventional reusable systems.
But even the small home party, it does not take place in a gym so is amazingly quite properly, to tanzmotivierenden levels beschallbar, thanks to the low-distortion reproduction up in quite already hearing-impairing volume regions. However, the louder the strenuous and exhausting, with increasing sharpness and harshness play the small Prodipe on. But also very quiet levels are not quite your thing, it sounds pretty good, but with decreasing volume, they are increasingly thinner, paler, more boring, undifferentiated and squeezed in the overall sound, and does not in any case overwhelming dynamic capabilities continue to decline. The MS4C feel most comfortable in the medium volume level, where they are probably mainly operated. But that's physics.
Two peaks / resonances in the field at about 150 Hz (reflex tunnel and / or line-up on the table) and approximately between 1.8 kHz and 7 kHz (presumably responsible for the rest of sharpness) by up to + 6dB to fall, but since my hearing at high frequencies due to age already subsides, that bothers me the extra presence and treble less than the lightweight Dröhnanfälligkeit in kickbass area, but that is bearable and the equalizer entzerrbar (so you have a available). A deep but very short slump in the upper treble range is at 10.7 kHz, but can not really tell in practice mode and is apparently caused by the air gap of the low-midrange driver and tweeter surrounds (one of the few disadvantages of Koaxtreibers). I personally know this collapse just because studying a frequency Schriebs of a measurement test. Incidentally, all the manufacturer's instructions are included in this comprehensive and very serious test invariably confirmed or are partly even exceeded significantly, such as the amazing frequency response of 60 Hz - 32 kHz! (Test: Sound & Recording 02/2014) Here the French manufacturer Prodipe exaggerates so far, but communicates more conservative. He makes no secret of the fact that development and testing in France, the production but takes place in Asian mass producers - A beautiful, Chapeau!
Two small criticisms I have also, in terms of the equipment:
1) The speaker connection using a mono phone cable may perhaps still be electrically acceptable in the low performance level of 2 x 20 watts, allowing an unrivaled rapid connection of the two boxes, but also poses the problem that whenever the jack cable hardly substitute with sufficient cable cross section at market is available and is necessary a more remote distance between the two boxes, the handle for soldering iron when needed to make a longer connection cable itself. Anyway, this type of connection is absolutely not standard and I have also seen here for the first time.
Dear producers: Please change to eg the standard speaker terminals or -.klemmen, thus own individual stripping can be used. That can not cost the earth surely.
2.) speaker grilles are indeed in real nearfield monitors frowned upon because of their sound-influencing properties, but in boxing that will probably not be a priority in the studio and will occur more within the reach of small children and pets, simple, removable fabric-covered frame to protect the delicate membranes would be desirable. But I would also no less than 10 Euro price jump more, dear producers.
*** Can perhaps who take in French and translated in his review, so that the French manufacturer the two desires understands ;-) ***
Conclusion: A clear recommendation in this price range in terms of sound, clarity, directness and neutrality, absolutely can not be compared with the most similar and favorable Brüll.- Dröhnwürfeln from the crowded multimedia sector. The Aufstellflexibilität the small monitors is simply awesome and probably unique in this segment.
Who then dazugesellt an ordinary, active subwoofer to the couple in order to relieve the MS4C in Bass and support, let's say an 8-, 10-, or 12-inch model and opens up so the two octaves down further, while reflex tunnel MS4C with foam filled to minimize their Dröhnneigung the kick bass range that can take over the subwoofer to 150 Hz in any case, really could be really happy. But even without a real deep bass are the small monitors because of their transparent sound absolutely worth listening and enjoyable. I had not been, I would have to buy me smooth.
