AVM FRITZ! Box 7390 Wireless Router (VDSL / ADSL, 300 Mbit / s, DECT base station, Media Server) (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

I have been working professionally in the IT and had some home router - Linksys, LANCOM, TP-Link. The 7390 but beats everything. I'm excited.

1. Firmware Update and Setup - logical, fast and works as it should.
2. Very useful functions in the web interface to set up - because where more information is needed, you will find that, the Setup Wizard that are worth the name.
3. A useful quick reference guide, when I almost cheered: It was all there, what you need and in no way too much information
4. Appealing, partly graphical web interface is easy to navigate
5. THE BEST WLAN radio channel display that I have ever seen. Absolutely helpful, easy to understand.

I was able to replace three devices with me - wireless router, DSL modem and DECT ISDN PBX. Electricity and electronics save it.

Let's talk about the details and why I'm really excited so.

First, the range of functions. I was surprised that the 7390 not only is a Voice-over-IP router, no he handles with analog connections, DECT phones and also with ISDN. He is a small PBX with two A / B connections and an extra ISDN S0 bus. For analog connections he has RJ11 (Western) - plug back and side of the case also TAE sockets - very exemplary. The but you can not simultaneously but only 'either, or' use
In addition - as already written - a S0 bus interface and 4 Gigabit LAN ports. WOW, very good. ISDN and DSL is connected via a special Y-cable that is included. Very simple and clearly explained in the Quick Start Guide. . Connection including Reading: 15 minutes.

After connected, the Internet provider data - in my case, Telekom - entered and completed. The 7390 has built a huge selection of Internet providers, because no one should be missing. Then made firmware update and switched equal to expert mode. The surface finish is also gradually re-sign one in the mode once selected.

Booked two DECT phones, set up phone numbers. Three telephone numbers of the ISDN connection, has the 7390 two automatically been recognized, the third input, set up fax - telephone system replaced in 15 minutes.

WLAN encryption changed in my old data. But then experienced a nasty surprise: Did the 7390, a slightly higher data rate on my DSL connection to, as my old DSL modem, so the rate was very poor. The reason I was in the radio channel setting in the wireless menu and there in the WLAN Overview (expert mode). The automatic had put the radio channel just to another AP close to me, which probably led to violent interference and had to break the transmission. By clicking 'Show interference' in this illustration you get an overview on which channels of 7390 for 300 Mbit / s needs - quite a few.
As for me, a few APs in the neighborhood send but not very many, I could put my radio channel in a free area and whoosh, all WLAN were eliminated problems without problems.
I find that really scary helpful and I know from LANCOM, there it is but a separate program and is called WLAN Monitor. But here it is in the right place and installed, the problems and the channels used in graphical form - exemplary!

The next were the DSL information in the menu Internet and DSL information. There AVM shows some information about the type of DSLAM, the protocol, line fault and - now it comes - the maximum possible data rate of the DSL connection. In my case, the 8 Mbit / s instead of 3 Mbit / s, which I currently can benefit. So Telekom called and now I get 6 Mbit / s with RAM - rate adaptive mode - in which the DSL modem always produces the best possible connection.
That was already the second, incredibly important for me help that has given me this great box.

I've only scratched the surface of the times configuration options and as someone tell me where this whole things something that is really fun!
Otherwise, the device may have taken all together for two hours, I had a few problems with the Wi-Fi channels and was only at searching.

In addition there are so 'little things' as the factory default Trenung the DSL connection by 5 clock in the morning, instead of 1 clock at night - made very deliberate. I have to feel the product in front of me, in the very experienced and certainly also love has flowed to detail. This is refreshingly different from the varied products from Asia or America, which either do not cover the usual functions in Germany or are poorly adapted to our market.

I have two TP-Link 300 Mbit / s USB sticks hanging off a eepc laptop and a Linksys Bridge - everything goes without problems. These two DECT phones that I run through a reinforced concrete floor (30 cm) - tested today - without any problems and outstanding speech intelligibility.

Compared to a LANCOM L-322agn, a Linksys WRT-610 and a E4200, the field strength under Win7 and the same WLAN USB Stick is lower by a stroke. In the 5 GHz band I get only one or two strokes at all. Nevertheless, the connection is for 7390 more than stable and I get in both cases 300 Mbit / s displayed.

The 7390 has a lot more features and settings that you do not all kaann here describe - built USB media support, NAS with 512MB, voice mail, PC Fax function, power saving features - off of wireless and / or DSL, automatically or after a given time etc.

My conclusion: just buy it! AVM has here delivered an excellent device for that price. Very well finished, excellent connectivity - analog, ISDN, DECT, VoIP, DSL analog or ISDN - the box does it all!
THE BEST router and configuration interface that I've ever seen, with outstanding tools - DSL information and radio channel settings - WLAN Overview and assistants.

For me, truly the DSL / WLAN / telephony router par. I would think no other device which is so well adapted to 'German conditions', so a wide range of features and has as stable. The machine is worth every penny.

Congratulations to AVM and good for us customers!

Addendum to Annex J and IPv6 by the 06.24.2013

There are now newer router from AVM but the 7390 is one - in my opinion - still far from the 'scrap heap'. Annex J is the All-IP connection to the telecom. Also, the 7390 and of course IPv6. This is indeed only a little 'convoluted' on the AVM web pages, but he can. Annex J gives a higher DSL rate again on the same terminal. Went with me so far only 6 Mbit / s so I get by Annex J now nearly 14 Mbit / s. For the conversion also includes a VoIP conversion of telephony - in my case - ISDN.
In Annex J of the splitter and the NT is eliminated, since both devices are required for ISDN, which indeed no longer exist after the conversion. The splitter had diverted a portion of the frequency band of the line for the ISDN transmission, now this share is also used for IP and thus obtained a higher bandwidth - expressed colloquially.

What you need for this is, however, something that is not present in the delivery of 7390. Although it is similar to the cable for the analogue connection - which is included with the 7390 - but differently wired. Because I had no idea but without buying a TAE to RJ11 adapter (telephone jack on Ethernet cable adapter) for Annex J, it is not. The connection for the analogue thought TAE to RJ11 cable, which is included with the 7390 just different wired to the telephone side and not working. But you get here at Amazon or in electronics market of their choice.
With this cable to link this to 7390 directly to the telephone socket and gets - depending on line quality - a higher bandwidth DSL.

In 7390 you have only 'telephony -> My Numbers -> Port Settings -> landline -> landline active' disable. Then does the 7390 with the latest firmware Fritz! OS 5:50 without problems I Annex J and IPv6.
Can I recommend it to anyone especially due to higher bandwidth DSL.

All other settings remain the same. Telephony unchanged, I would recommend only the activation of 'fax transmission also with T.38' under the port settings if you have connected an analog fax machine on 7390. This is a special transmission method for analog fax machines that are connected to VoIP lines in order to ensure compatibility with the VoIP transmission. My analog fax machine to work with it without any problems.

The great thing is that the Fritz! Box 7390 is otherwise completely transparent with an annex J terminal and thus with VoIP and IPv6 for telephony terminals and PCs (Win7). There is no change of settings necessary on the terminals and PCs have an IPv6 and an IPv4 address - unless you have IPv6 is not disabled in the connection settings of the network connection.

The IPv6 prefix is changed reliably in daily reconnecting the DSL connection. Thus a daily change also the IPv6 address (prefix) is ensured. Maintenance such as changing an IPv4 address that is also changed.

I can only repeat again: My thanks to AVM for an excellent router that me even after more than one year always enthusiastic and reliable work - even with terminals for which it was not really designed explicitly.
The router is extremely stable and reliable for years and I'm still very satisfied.

If you have problems and I have the WLAN also sometimes, which should please WLAN -> View radio channel, the WLAN environment and display the 'WLAN interference'. I myself have sometimes problems in the 5 GHz band because of other stations in this area.

The establishment of Annex J is not part of the manual, which is probably because of the fact that Annex J was not an issue in this manual. Nevertheless Box supports the Fritz! 7390 Annex J completely.
