Now for the actual Linux Install.
First you should make a BIOS Update -> version 1.10.
My unit has already been delivered at this level. For all other ... Windows Install ... EXE file download and run.
With the current BIOS ACPI is implemented clean and the Linux on after shutting down the notebook also.
To install the BIOS should turn from EFI in the legacy_mode. From USB Stick boot and install Linux of choice. My choice was Linux Mint with the Cinnamon interface.
For me, the basic functionalities out-of-the-box function as the saying goes.
Nevertheless, you should update its system in the terminal via "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade". Alternatively, take the package / software management.
The hot keys behave a bit buggy. Generally, there are under Ubuntu distrus (maybe Linux in general) problems with the brightness control: Remedy has given me in this case, the application of the "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf" file with entries
"Section" Device
Identifier "card0"
Driver "intel"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
BusID "PCI: 0: 2: 0"
EndSection "helped after a new login.
Another problem was the sleep function which has not driven the unit to standby.
Solution: Terminal: sudo gedit / etc / default / grub -> line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "quiet splash" = after GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT "quiet splash acpi_osi = Linux" changed -> Grub with "sudo update-grub" re-initialized and after a computer restart (sudo shutdown -r now for those who still rumturnen in Terminal) also works.
What have I yet do not get: The Airplane function key.
As you can see Linux is still only a little tinkering for those who like or want to install only out of spite not Windows (which can prove the search for appropriate Windows 7 drivers to be difficult in this unit).
Who has more Linux tips on this device, may indeed like to comment.
Greetings Matthias
// UPDATE 5/19/2015 - experience with Win10 Preview.
Here I am. Since this notebook is delivered with Windows 8.1 and the free Win 10 upgrade is coming. Here are some impressions of currently available Win 10 Preview.
But first a few last comments on the Linux Install: As I have already written to get almost everything up and running. An exception was the Bluetooth stack. Although I was able to turn on Bluetooth, but I was unable to find any Bluetooth device capable.
Another note: encryption. Especially mobile devices should be encrypted. Forgets the encryption software on the user plane partitions or the whole system. CPU as standard I had no problems, but the write and read rates was really bad.
Since I anyway wanted to invest in a SSD. I have chosen a Crucial MX100 (256GB) decided with intrigrierten AES. The BIOS then only a supervisor and a HDD password has to be forgiven ... done.
Anyone who reads a bit, can also make a UEFI Linux Install. -> Ubuntuusers.de than reading.
Well, now for Windows 10th
Let's start with the USB installation, since we have no optical drive ... at least not in this unit.
Download ISO at Microsoft and a USB stick with 4GB rauskramen.
There are the beautiful MS Windows 7 ISO2USB Migration Tool. It creates a wonderful Windows 10 USB Stick. Unfortunately, the tool formatted with NTFS and so can UEFI so start anything.
So the stick FORMAT as FAT32, unpack the Win10 Iso with 7ZIP or similar tools and copy the contents to the stick. Done. In UEFI boot order to USB HDD switch and off you go. The actual installation work by itself.
Drivers are mostly delivered by MS "Out of the Box". Everything else is done with the Windows 8.1 drivers directly from the Acer website.
There is a nice Synaptic touchpad bug in which this same every 2 minutes fails. For this incl. All the gestures work properly two Requirements must be met.
1. in the BIOS set the Touchpadeinstellund Advanced.
2. Observe sequence when installing the driver. First chipset drivers, then IO driver and finally only the Synaptic drivers.
Also tricky it was for the Bluetooth drivers: After I had my problems already in Linux, the suspicion crept in that I caught a Monday device. No matter what kind of Bluetooth driver I use. The Device Manager acknowledged each activation with error code 10 or 43. despair Just before I decided first time Windows updates perform. After a reboot all Bluetooth drivers were miraculously installed and enabled. The exciting moment, I think this time my Lenovo Bluetooth Mouse ... yes. Thank you.
The actual Windows 10 I do not imagine here. Personally like the balancing act between tile and "classic" Windows 7 start menu.
So that's it.
