At first I was of the move was not convinced and agreed to music critics, wrote the mid-1970s: "It's just another record-company". I felt the same way, because suddenly for me lost "the soul" of Motown Sounds gone, the genius of the composers / producers Holland-Dozier-Holland, wonderful in conjunction with this incredible bass line (of James Jamerson and Bob Babbit), in interaction with the other Funk Brothers (Motown's legendary studio band), and especially in combination with the driving drums (Benny Benjamin and Richard "Pistol" Allen). Quote: "drummer Benny Benjamin's hard and emphatic beat, at incredibly teamwork with James Jamerson's bass - together They raised hell (and were the backbone and heartbeat of the Motown sound)" from Nelson George, "Where Did Our Love Go"
Now, in the sun-scorched desert state of California, the company Motown committed musicians from the LA musicians pool, called his new recording studio even "Hitsville USA (2)" but the sound was now completely different.
In addition to Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson and Lionel Richie had taken part in the move from Detroit to Los Angeles and is already very well acclimatized in their new homeland. The former frontman of the Commodores etnwickelte in this new home, which is also influenced by the many Spanish-speaking residents, even gradually to Motown superstar. Had he already been proven that he is not only a very good singer, but also a gifted songwriter, he optimized his abilities now more and more towards perfection and Motown founder and president Berry Gordy supported him there.
For SHM double CD 'Lionel Richie / Commodores Gold - The Definitive Collection'
At first I was skeptical about whether the grouping of songs the Commodores (with Lionel Richie) could actually work with Richie's solo recordings, especially as the Commodores had already boast an impressive number of hits and albums. But my concerns quickly dissolved into thin air and made a real enthusiasm space.
Music:
Producer (incidentally a passionate Motown fan) Harry Weinger has fertggebracht the feat and the Lionel Richie song with which the early Commodores (they made no later Richie continued) welded into a coherent unit. Of course, he had to select, otherwise you would not have gotten along with 2 CDs, but that makes quite a positive effect because it might not quite so good Tiitel been omitted. The result is actually something like the "Definitive Motown Collection" by artist Lionel Richie solo and as lead singer of the Commodores and for fans so that a true stroke of luck.
Sound quality:
Having already the standard double-CD was this collection perfectly, I discovered in Amazon, that there is also a further sound-optimized SHM version and have it ordered. The listening experience was and is gorgeous and I'm happy about the acquisition. Everything is just right: the choice of songs, the 24-bit remastering by my Lieblingstoningenieur Suha Gur and as "icing" the sound optimization through the super transparent material of the SHM-CD (some explanation can be found, inter alia, in my review of the SHM CD 'Donna Summer Live & More')
Buy recommendation:
I affirm that I have bought this SHM double CD even at a reasonably humane price and am quite surprised that the Japanese distributor forwards them to the Amazon, now calling for a so astronomical amount that I would never pay the way. Those interested in this SHM version, maybe you should look for a bit and with a little luck he can then buy but still at a fair price. Emergency just order the standard version, which can be had very cheap, because who listens mainly MP3, the possibly disturbing minor limitations in sound quality is not so much how they unfortunately can spoil the fun at some mediocre sounding CD regular to me.
