Eizo EV2455-GY 61 cm (24 inch) monitor (DVI, HDMI, 5ms response time, USB 3.0) Grey (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

It took some time until I had committed myself to this monitor.
I wanted an inexpensive monitor with good image. Should there be a better 27er or lets the boil the notebook graphics? Better a glass display?
Opinions are still (november 2014) in short supply.

Appearance: I find it very successful. Due to the very narrow scope of the monitor to the eye looks "easy". Grau it has become, because he to better match the white office furniture and the very light gray desk.

Power Saving options: First, this is something beneficial. However, ill-made technical gimmicks values a product from more. After a short acclimatization (the screen I use now 1 week) I get along very well with the power-management features clear and rate it positively. Somewhat irritated I was first out of the box in some darkened office. I could not change the brightness of the screen (and the manual I had not even read). At some point I then had the idea to take the Eco settings under the microscope and did manage through trial-and-error to enable the setting for the image brightness. Meanwhile, I am counting on there but completely automatic brightness adjustment adjusted by me.
When I read a long text on the screen of the Note will be my occasional "no presence detected" is displayed discreetly in the lower left corner of the screen. Then it is sufficient, even "wave" with your hand to. The indication disappears and the monitor does not turn off. However, it is also possible to extend the duration of the standard 3 minutes.

The switches for the screen settings are not designed mechanically but touch-sensitive. Also works fine. The power indicator light (white) is so unobtrusive that I have not disabled.

Unusual is the tilting mechanism, with which the monitor can be tilted slightly backwards (are tilted to use the Pivot function, the monitor must also backwards). The swinging joint is not sitting where the monitor is connected with the column (the so is dissolved at all known to me monitors) but in the lower half of the column. Is not a tragedy, we need to know because another operation is needed to tip but.
Cool is the swivel base, which would enable a turning almost 180 degrees in either direction - were it not for the monitor cable. Turning is also very smooth. Similarly, the pivot rotation.

The picture I rate as good. Clear can be seen at the start halos. The go on leaving the full brightness back quickly. And then who does so office work, will see or not to feel disturbed no. Even if someone wants to make image editing and the luminosity (which then is in this purpose usage) reduced, he is good with the monitor to cope (I do not trust me as an opinion, because I home at one CG222W work and photos for commercial editing purposes). What more could interfere with the photo editing are slight color shifts on the monitor surface. If Office is not relevant and overall it's an aspect that you have to look very closely (I have not measured).
The illumination is somewhat uneven, in a non-relevant for Office expression.
For me, no IPS Glow is perceptible. However, this is my first IPS screen and I do not have the eye for it. It bothers me just nothing, when I look into the monitor.
I recognize also no flickering. As a lower limit to automatic brightness control I entered 15%. How it behaves under, I can not judge. Is in my opinion even in darkened rooms hardly necessary - but that feels every user probably slightly different.

Why is there a star deduction? I think it would be good if I could adjust your monitor to about 2 cm higher (as with the CG222W). So I have to look very slightly downwards. (Ok, you could put a ream of copy paper under the monitor stand - but I will not, because that does not look good.) But the effect is still good bearable (for classification: 183cm height), and the only "weak point", I for me, have seen the way I work and my claims after a week use.

I run the monitor to a 13 "MacBook Pro from 2010. Connected I have both devices on this Lenovo Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable.
The cable fits well in both terminals. There is no interference from the cable.
Somewhat surprised I was when I realized that the volume buttons have no effect on the keyboard (speaker icon in the menu bar is grayed out).
By using the DisplayPort connector (transfers picture and sound) is apparently disabled the system-side volume control. The volume of Youtube movies must be directly in the browser or be set using the volume buttons of the monitor (the latter is permanently somewhat cumbersome). How does it work when connected via DVI I can not say no because tested. In theory, as the system-side volume control should however remain active (perhaps someone a grudge with appropriate experience in the comments would be great).
Enjoyment are the built-in monitor speakers no. They operate sufficiently loud.

As I write this Monitor primarily long Word documents, I have selected "Paper" from the Monitor menu "Mode". Thus the image is first "yellow". After a few minutes the eye but used to it and the image perception is again "balanced". To sense the "Paper" setting there is a lot to read on the Eizo site.
I find that to be very pleasant. For machining of small little pictures (for web publishing) I can quickly switch back to sRGB.

In sum me makes the monitor a lot of joy.
For Office I can pronounce a largely unrestricted (up to the height adjustment) recommendation.
Games and movies I have not tested, because this is not my user profile.

In summer, this monitor gets to increase the working surface "a brother".
What better recommendation?

Supplement: In the meantime, an "official" test is carried PRAD.de ago. The online editors awarded a Very good.

Supplement 2: It did not take until the summer, the second copy has arrived and is already on the desk (this time actually Amazon). For reasons of readability is the 2nd not screwed into the escape of the main monitor but anything. The perspective would in principle still ok, reading the content is in a straight look at the surface but relieved the sharpness perception is recognized better.
Both monitors have the same settings and are mainly in the mode "Paper" operated. The new monitor appears to be slightly "yellow" matched, the difference amounts to about 300K (also in sRGB mode perceptible, other modes can not be compared). However, this is only noticeable in direct comparison - or if you have a very trained eye in these matters. The monitors have not been calibrated. With regard to the different actual color temperature I will give the monitor a few hours time and then supplement here again.

Until then

enjoy your work :)
