A first foretaste was offered the gutklassige Bond number "You Know My Name", in the Cornell effortlessly mastered the balancing act between rock and Cineastik. In the further course of the album he tries to take care for it, to position itself between the chairs, which sometimes more, sometimes less good succeed. This has the consequence that, taken alone, the songs work pretty well, however, seem a little confusing, and sometimes half-baked in the gallery context. For example, some numbers are very rocky (the groovy opener "No Such Thing"), or remember their Funkigkeit at the last Audioslave album Revelations ("Poison Eye"). With "Billie Jean" there is also a Michael Jackson cover, which the original though (as expected) can not hold a candle to the classics but presented in a new, more bombastic robe. You may definitely find well - but of course not have to.
The size plus of course Cornell's phenomenal voice, which is always good for the odd goose bumps moment. "Safe and Sound" for example, is a song: ballad and kept spartan, Cornell here marked the singer / songwriter so convincing that it is a real pleasure. Also knows how to please the unconventional structure of many pieces.
One shortcoming, however, is the sounding sometimes slightly Home Studio sound of the album, the slightly more fine-tuning would have done well.
Power bottom line very concise four star - and really only, if one could evaluate the Temple Of The Dog album or the Soundgarden milestones with six stars.
