The outer shell is sturdy enough to withstand the shocks and scratches, the inside is shaped memory foam covered with a soft "velor / microfibre" to prevent scratches and both sides are equipped with elastic holds (for HDD) and a net for the cable for example.
All that exudes the same strength it is true that it may not be suitable for all external hard drives 2 "1/2 of their shapes / sizes.
For my Toshiba Basics 1TB is almost perfect.
One star less for outdoor frills: the strap and carabiner on the back are (in my opinion) completely useless. You can easily remove the strap with a clip to spread the metal buckle that holds, but the carabiner is integrated into the shell and is therefore immovable. On a desk, the artwork will never be truly stable on that side.
