With "Ode to J. Smith" Travis show what they have long been proven in their concerts: The more they are capable of as beautiful melodies. The album is rocking, has rough edges. The sound was not ironed out, there are ever to hear a distorted guitar. It is very varied and reminds partly on the debut album "Good Feeling", but mature. Even on this album, there is the wonderful melodies, without hardly a Travis song manages, these songs also have an effect but not as slick on the predecessor, they have more energy. The album stands out from the first to the last song by powerful music, you can hear that the 11 songs were recorded live. Travis seem to have reinvented itself without losing its roots and its strengths in mind.
