The stick itself is slightly larger than a standard USB flash drive, relatively easy and makes a "windy" impression. Connection options are only available with 2x USB (including 1x mini), mini-HDMI and power - that's it. To connect to a network WiFi is used.
After connecting to a typical Android 4 with adapted (tidy) surface reports. The Android itself is analogous to a mobile / tablet - therefore I save here a description of Android and its options. The device, especially of WLANs is Android-typical and straightforward. Mostly there are also settings that make no sense sooo on a TV :) (eg for battery life ...) Some settings, such as "display", bringing the Settings Manager even crash - so I was able to stick to test only at 1080p30 (seems to be the default setting?).
The pre-installed Angry Birds ran just as easily as the browser. Surfing on TV works and stick with that even relatively cool :)
Witzig is that also "navigation" is pre-installed ... So if you want to travel to the television through the country)
However, negative falls on the operation. The stick comes with no remote control - so it's either a keyboard / mouse can be connected directly (what wg just a normal USB connection is tricky.) Be, or you need a wireless keyboard (extra cost), or any one installs a remote app for mobile ... overall everything a bit annoying because Android halt work at its best with a touch display, which you just do not have here. The meeting of icons, menu entries is therefore unfortunately sometimes a bit "fiddly".
As a media player, I have to say is the thing to use under certain conditions.
For the stick, there is no "Media Player app" ... one just has an operating system right can browse through directories, open files ... so convenient as a WD Live not to get so somehow to his films, images, Music. Who Movie Sheets knows and is used also miss his Library ... Exciting's will even though the own media not located locally on the drive, but on a NAS ... because not everyone can access "File Explorer" for Android to Windows shares .. . So here you have to install the correct (what that may be, see below).
Playback of media is then also such a thing. If the installed MX Player eg no DTS (at least not the free version) ... Most data but HD movies come with DTS ... If you want to AC-3 or DTS via an amplifier have is generally somewhat tricky - the only way is ultimately HDMI (settings such as sound via HDMI to be passed I have not found) - which means the TV must be either the tone 1: (!) can 1 through locks (which I can not), or you have to stick to an amplifier Connect has an HDMI input ... Even after three days I have frankly failed to come to my usual "cinema experience" - there where you can just connect the WD Live TV and the amplifier, you have here an obstacle course from "Search ne app that can play the movie "(hardware must be supported audio formats need to be supported, ... I have found nothing suitable :() and boarded everything fits with existing devices ... I've given up eventually.
What also will be mentioned: The stick has only Wi-Fi! So if you want HD watch movies over the stick of a NAS, should also be a WLAN with min. 150 (better 300) Mbit have ... with "old" 54Mbit WLANs to the movies do not get fast enough to the box!
Playback of local films worked (except for the sound which was only to hear in stereo on the television). Movies with 25 fps but juddered - is probably because that the box uses 30 fps, which unfortunately can not change. "MTS" files from my Videokammera I could not play (MX Player).
The stick is relatively hot - questionable how long the China part goes along with this ... annoying is the fact that the drive does not switch! The supplied AC adapter draws when the stick is going down still about 2 Watts ... that there should be so today actually no longer exist.
My verdict:
Who wants to play by the coach from occasional surfing or a few mobile games, video playback in any major claims has ... can be happy. Who wants to replace it with the stick a Media Center, which should probably better leave it alone - or be familiar very well with Android, because there needs to be tinkered ...
