The 2nd law (Audio CD)

Customer Review

I am no enemy of change, I'm just not a fan of pop music. Muse have "The Resistance" already diverse genre well covered on "Black Holes and Revelations" and (positive aspect is certainly the driving electronic masterpiece "Map of the Problematique"). Although have always crept more pop songs since "Absolution", one could muse still refer to "BHAR" and with a little wink to "The Resistance" as alternative and experimental rock band.

The 2nd law is the first Muse album, in which predominate the pop songs. Who are songs like "Starlight", "Undisclosed Desires", "Time is running out", "Resistance" or "Guiding Light" to his favorites, which I can "The 2nd Law" recommend only warmest. I am glad for you. Unfortunately, I can (as a really excessive Muse fan since Origin of Symmetry * Pride and love peep *) not make friends with this album.

Muse is now so a pop band, when still occasionally flare old strengths that a spark can be a lover like me hope that after the commercial success of T2L the next album there is a reflection on the alternative / progressive roots. (This hope I had however already to The Resistance)

To Album:

1. Supremacy (5/5)
Supremacy fits seamlessly saustarker in the unbroken series openers (Sunburn, New Born, Apocalpyse please, Take A Bow, Uprising). A pressing reef, spherical sung verses, a chilly solo with nice jauligem vocals and a real Bellamy in the chorus. The highlight is start in my view of great constructive transition to the chorus at 4:18, at the bass, and vocals the epic end-stripper.

2. Madness (3/5)
The Matt Bellamy describes this as "probably the best song I've ever written," my Muse brings foundation belonging to wobble. The song is not so bad and I have often caught me "Ma-Ma-Ma-Ma-Ma ..." Singing. But after a few times it's enough then actually.

3. Panic Station (3/5)
Funky and Grooovy. "Uuuuuuuuuuuh 1-2-3-4 fire's in your eyes" - that makes already fun and the guitar has good moments. All in all, the song uses, however, quite rapidly, in particular because of the many repetitions at the end.

4 /. 5 Prelude / Survical (4/5)
Just now as four star. The Prelude is pretty and the transition to Survival succeeded. The lyrics I find a little flat, but that you can handle. Very good I think the guitar work in this song, especially the part from 3: 06-3: 53 is really fun. The rest is to me personally then forced a little epic, similar to United States of Eurasia. Muse can be much more authentic epic.

6. Follow me (1/5)
This Popdance number brings me almost to tears. "Follloooooooow me, you can follllooooow me". As beautiful as the testimony of his son (the song is dedicated to him) here is so hard to bear is the musical output of the rudimentary ear musically satisfying. "Follow me" is probably the next single. I fear the worst.

7. Animals (5/5)
Between the two low points of the album, fortunately, the second of the two 5-star songs: Animals. The 5/4 drumbeat gives the song a pleasant river, text and vocals are great along with there are still one of the best guitar solos from Matt Bellamy ever. That's muse!

8. Explorer (1/5)
After I read forums in the relevant muse that this song should be a "Grower" I have really given me trouble. But every time Matt sings with the tongues of angels "Free me, freeeee mee, freeee me from this world", I have the word "cheesy" to think that the English love to use for schmaltzy songs.

9. Freeze Big (2/5)
A cheerful, very decent, but simple pop song. But please, the drumbeat - that's a little thin.

10. Save Me (2/5)
Chris Wolstenholme's first own song. A cry for help from the alcohol addiction. This ballad is not too bad, but it just sounds not by Muse and is still a bit drab.

11. Liquid State (3/5)
Also by Chris, fortunately much more rock. Riff and song I really like. Solid rock song. No burner.

12. The 2nd Law: Unsustainable (4/5)
The good string intro and the perfect matching of the recording newscaster conduct skillfully into a fairly thick Dubstep Part. Even better, however, to the refrain, when Matt squeezes out wonderfully strange sounds from his guitar and then yelps in this inimitable manner. At this time I am on full 5-star price. Unfortunately, unfortunately, unfortunately, the song will not evolve, but the chorus is repeated dubstep 1 to 1. This is pretty uninspiring and leaves me unsatisfied, unfortunately in anticipation of an epic climax back.

13. The 2nd Law: Isolated System (4/5)
This quiet yet driving combination of electro beat and piano I like very much - a perfect song for lonely night highway driving. An unusual degree, instrumental, but very well done.

Conclusion: The very different songs, both qualitatively and genretechnischal, preventing a clean flow of the album. Although this all sounds terribly negative here: I love Muse anyway!
