More surround sound does not need a "Regular Guy" ;-)

The title of my review, it already brings to the point, however, even in advance a set to me that you may be able for that here in the jungle of reviews into perspective.

I am someone who good sound like and no teen of her hair to dry from the reflex tube from wind ;-) For many years I call a high-quality DJ set my own, which in the signal chain through quality analog components from Shure , Technics and Allen & Heath is equipped. For output, I use a Samson Professional audio speaker system "Rubicon R6a" with Subwoofer "R10s".

Ergo I do not trust me to make an informed and useful review this product dispense. Since sound however is always a very subjective experience, I consider myself something of sound as "Hammer Bass" ...

Logitech Z-906 occupied by a niche which is so filled by any other system or manufacturers> 5.1 sound without AV receiver in the living room.

Other 5.1-satellite systems for the PC have no decoder for digital surround sound (only connection to PC 3 times stereo mini-jack / there are in the living room not!) Though, and the systems for home theater have a powered subwoofer, are but for the gain of satellite and decoding the signals to a separate AV Receiver dependent.

Here had been received, but that could get higher quality speakers for stereo sound for the same money also briefly on the many suggestions in comments predecessor Logitech Z-5500 and other products. Clear might that be. But if I want to surround dammit, I can not do anything with these suggestions. If you buy a 5.1 satellite system you have to be located on the primary application and the limitations associated with this principle clear. And that is primarily not the high-quality reproduction of music. Since it is certainly better off with a small stereo reciever and two good shelf speakers.
That system has just the missing lower centers of small satellites to the subwoofer produce to create a reasonably homogenous sound. Nevertheless, there remains a "hole" in the frequency response which the sub is no longer and can not transmit the satellite / should. That leads to a sound similar to a "Loudness" and is so far from linear or neutral. And clearly - by design and purely physical - sounds that thing by the Sub inflated. But that is but all systems of this type (and price range), or not? In direct comparison to the system of a friend, I would at least not have to pay 10 times that for the same operating principle restrictions on the system of a German manufacturer.
And clearly stinks from that part when playing music against my studio monitor speakers, but stop, it is also unfair it to a stereo system with ribbon tweeter (!), 6 "-sub / midrange driver and additional sub for total nearly 1,000 EUR compete permit.

For use in the home theater and sound reproduction when playing that thing is though - I can not say otherwise - a stunner !!!
"Purchased" THX Multimedia certificate or not. At a minimum, the reality according to the according to this performance information and that they are doing well. As a pure PC sound system (in the vicinity) that thing with 500 Watts RMS is a real number "too much".

In my 5 x 4 meter living room it builds a huge stage in front of my screen (270 cm diagonal Celexon - Sanyo Z4000 ;-) on that one really thinks he is in the auditorium. Everything sounds airy, large and not strained.
Due to the high performance it has dynamic reserves without end. Sonically the interpretation with the large subwoofer is now just right. What still "loud" and inflated something sounds in the music playback is here precisely that what is needed. Explosions and other effects are reproduced extremely dynamic. The perceived positioning is good. Friends thought it knock the balcony door next to my bed ;-)

Inception, Star Trek XI, 300, LotR or GI Joe are exactly demanded the films according to which that system. The opening sequence of Quantum of Solace convinced the last skeptics of the power handling and when in Apocalypse Now (BD) close your eyes - madness. But a Faithless concert DVD was a completely new experience for me.

With the setting of the sub on 4-5 of 12 I have good experience; otherwise it's untenrum to inflate!

Since that system has no HDMI ports no HD audio can already technically be reproduced as this may be transmitted as a multi-channel audio only via HDMI. However, I have the "Core streams" (DTS-HD MA and DD THD have backward-compatible "cores") nothing to complain about, especially since these today on BD often have a bit rate of 1.5 Mbit. I also believe that, for all his enthusiasm, on this system or this price range anyway no difference can perceive.

I would be with limited budget and when the benefits but also the constraints is fully aware of the system a chance and do not out of the manufacturer's name or the "Hatern" devil-lovers, Bose junkies, home theater fanatics PC boxes let -Belächlern or stereo recommenders in doubt!

For that money you can not expect surround sound and - to return to the title - more surround sound and power needs no human in the living room !!!

Benefits:

- Plug & Play in the living room (electricity and pure audio cable and off you go)> limited to the bare minimum, no frills immediately understood by everyone without instructions!

- Very high dynamic reserves and volume level

- Good sound dry and still abysmal, clean bass and clear treble

- (Stereo doubled backwards; no center> super for music) 4.1 Effect, 3D effect (filtered voices coming from the surround's and places it on the center; works quite well> super for movies, etc. in the "normal" television), as well simple stereo (2.1)

- "Decode" LED, which indicates that a DD or DTS signal at the digital input is present and is decoded

- Nice little panel

For this purpose even a few sentences: Many reviewers have criticized the lack of display as its predecessor - rubbish! The LED circuit is super thoughtful and also on long distances much better to decipher than a small dot-matrix display. The LED circle around the gridded volume control, for example, has for each LED brightness 4 / levels. During operation really are on only the most LEDs, and these are subtle in their luminosity. In a nutshell: This is where someone thought has made to that interface that does not go unnoticed.

. - Nice little & simple remote control with good knobs (unusual: Micro Switch) incl Duracell batteries

- Good quality of workmanship and choice of materials for all components (I was very surprised how good everything feels;'m a tactile person ;-)

- Cable for that matter (though bell wires ;-)

- Metal thread for wall mounting

- No subwoofer with "down-firing principle" (subtenant Gentle)

- Subjective: design of satellites and control panel very nice (worth today in piano lacquer delusion a mention) simply and in a subtle matt dark gray

Disadvantages:

(In which dialogues pushed it lacks a "night mode" and bass steamed ergo) No regulation of bottom subwoofer cutoff frequency, Übergangsfrquenzen & no dynamic range control / -komprimierung -

- In Dolby Digital and DTS signals the 3D or 4.1-effect can not be applied (If a signal in these audio formats (only this) as 2.0 (stereo) are present, it may be reproduced as such only of course with! Sub than 2.1)

- The rear surround speakers can not be controlled independently of each other in your volume and the center can not louder than the front surround speakers to be.

- Speakers show in stand up (alignment for PC workstation)

- Cables for the living room (at least for me) too short> but speakers with clamps!

- Clutter on Sub (. F loudspeaker terminals + inputs)

- Etc. No spikes (drunterlegen foam or tennis balls) at Sub

- Cheap Clamps
