The stamp plate itself is made of gray rubber (or plastic? 'M not quite sure) and covers the entire bottom of the wooden temple. Between rubber stamp and a wooden handle is also a cushion layer which ensures a more uniform print image, in this price range a rare extra. Due to the large open space around the actual letter I had feared that there are difficulties with unwanted ink transfer, but this is hardly the case. If you go to dab the stamp reasonably straight and perpendicular to the ink pad gets the edge off any color that you would otherwise find himself unwanted blot on his project. I have tried different inks (StazOn, Archival, Adirondack Pikment, Memento, Distress). There were no surprises, the material behaves like a normal rubber stamp.
