I bought the CD because of the choir in which I sing the Stabat Mater was performed. It was my first contact with Karl Jenkins and what can I say, he grabbed me from the first moment. The work draws the listener (and singer) immediately under its spell and leaves him breathless after the spectacular final chorus back. In between, it creates the composition, without detours directly touching the heart and empathize with the suffering of a tormented grieving mother. Appears the music at first glance maybe a little superficial as it is but the drama of a Stabat Mater perfectly just. One only has to take the time to embrace it. If now is already compared to other reviews, I must say to Jenkins vindication: (! The Incomparable) Bach has taken all pieces in other works one on one with other text, of course. Handel, Corelli, Vivaldi and many more are recognizable by their recurring style always. Yet they are far from any criticism. When I hear a work or singing along, I do not compare it to another, but judge it by whether the composer and his music does justice to the theme of the work. After my subjective perception, for example, I consider the Requiem by Jenkins for messed up, trashy and superficial. His Peace Fair again I think is just as spectacular as his Stabat Mater.
