"Something Borrowed" is in itself a rather nice, well entertaining, with likeable actors (the male lead but goes through smoothly as Tom Cruise 2.0, which probably is more to his rigid, somewhat fake smile) occupied movie. There are really some very nice scenes. Nevertheless, the film is probably something in between, for evenings vacuum blessed Entertainment. Because the film suffers from primarily two important points.
On the one hand, the film is completely predictable - and the absolute. He does not deviate from even in small details from the usual formulaic. A Hollywood romance in its purest form. But if you like such films, then you know, after all, what you can get involved. So much for an entertaining movie for evenings when you want to experiment a bit.
The second weakness concerns the setting of the actors. Anyone who has been in love with the girlfriend of his best friend, knows how difficult the whole thing. How complicated. How much gray area admits it to himself? To what extent I may be guided by my feelings in such a stark situation? Well, the issue is sensitive and can not be easily "right / good" and "wrong categorize / evil". Or is it? Yes, because this movie can do that, he has the dangerous corners and edges of the theme rounded by having Rachel's best friend Darcy very, very negatively marked. Thus, it makes the film in my opinion a bit too easily. From the "best friend" you finally can assume usually that it is a positive figure. But that would only unnecessarily complicate the film. So here, the easiest way was chosen: It makes the "best friend" just a superficial, mistiges silly - and is a very, very difficult subject of which can be grown without major obstacles according to the book.
Therefore, the awarded four stars from me like maybe a little overvalued appear. But me the film has a good time, you can assess beforehand what you're getting into, it can have some very beautiful scenes and has a mostly nice set of actors, I can recommend him for quite Genre friends. The world will not see you then certainly different - but that should not be the goal of every film.
