Potential for there is always, on the small Contra List of WX-5, the following points that a successor must be better:
- Very weak battery life. Especially with FullHD videos the battery is empty in no time.
- Stereo Microphone very wind sensitive (no WindCut)
- Slight barrel distortion at the sides with FullHD video
- The zoom (5x only) could be better.
After weeks of research by testing and reviews much my choice (of course) on a Sony, the WX200. The WX80 also sounded very interesting, but the display will be poorly resolved and the more expensive WX300 should lt. Div. Tests surprisingly worse pictures than the WX200 make ..... so off with the WX200 in the cart!
1 day later - as it is now:
The Sony WX200 is very easily in the hand and makes a high impression. The display is sharp, the menu and the initial set-up becomes intuitive and is nearly unchanged compared to the WX5. The controls are just as small as the WX5 and arranged slightly differently, men paws will get problems here. Small surprise: the batteries of the WX5 fit into the WX200 though the name is different .... For direct comparison, I have the camera settings 1: 1 with the WX5 compared to the image quality to be able to judge fairly - the highest resolution of the WX-5 is 12MP, the WX200 I made photos in 18MP and 10MP. Of course, I've also done a test video.
My partly surprising results for the WX200 are as follows: (all photos without flash)
Images in broad daylight:
Super, definitely better than the also very good WX5, here you can feel the advantage of higher resolution (6MP +) significantly. Details can be seen better, writings clearly legible. The clear winner is the WX200.
Images in bright artificial light:
Also very good, but the difference is not so clear. Very slight advantage for the WX200.
Images at medium daylight and artificial light conditions inside and outside:
Very spongy photos, often hinzubekommen hardly sharpness and / or a clear picture without flash. The clear winner here is the WX5
Pictures in low light conditions inside:
Hard to use photos yet, partly strong camera shake and noise. The clear winner is the WX5
Pictures in the dark:
Hard to use photos yet, partly strong camera shake and noise. The clear winner is the WX5.
The setting 'superior fully automatic' brings the cameras high, although again a bit closer together - but the WX5 is significantly better ..
Local videos in broad daylight and far:
As to watch video quality equivalent to or slightly higher quality education no tons / -Verzerrung toward the edge, battery consumption despite higher quality (Full HD +) less, stereo sound with selectable WindCut a great Gimmik
General:
The WX200 has 'only' a wide-angle of 25mm, the WX5 has 24mm. In direct comparison the difference is yet to quite clearly that I would not have thought possible. Without a direct comparison, the 25mm go naturally fully in order.
Furthermore, I noticed disturbing to the push the WX200 reacts too quickly and therefore can not be metered. Also, the digital zoom can not be completely switched off, so that one easily unintentionally 10x zoom.
Conclusion:
Although the WX200 in video part delivers significantly better results than my WX5 (but already on a high level) and is much more economical battery consumption, are not enough of these benefits only in order to come from the throne. The picture quality is really only in very bright sunlight better and otherwise the WX200 delivers the standard quality that I know of other cameras (eg Ixus and Exilim), but not enough for me because the WX5 here just amazing great photographs and great without flash pictures makes. Then I do not want to do without, and therefore I have to return the WX200 unfortunately heavy heart again.
In principle, the WX200 is but definitely a really good compact camera, hammer out its features and quality of other manufacturers only in larger housing.
I hope I have helped you
