When unpacking immediately notice the somewhat uncouth style. Due to the viewfinder, the Nikon a hump of not standing her so. It is of a size almost identical to the Canon, but looks bigger. The weight is slightly lower, but what you no longer enters the title of a pocket camera. But it is, as has moreover been the PowerShot G models, much too large.
The sleek black look I find appealing. The build quality is great. The feel I find getting used to. In this price range I is a little inappropriate. Since the Canon has an advantage. From a Sigma DP I need not speak here. Well I like the grip. Here demonstrates Nikon how to accommodate even the smallest space ergonomics.
The front is dominated by the 28-200mm lens. The hump includes a compact, bright and appealing optical viewfinder, and the pop-up flash. These projects only a scarce centimeters from the housing and is extended manually by pressing a button. In addition to the AF auxiliary light is located at the front nor the FN button, but more on that later.
Find As with the power shots of G series at the top of the camera many cogs. One for the exposure, one for the menus and a small for setting the most important parameters such as ISO, white balance, etc. The latter I find work much easier. In addition to the zoom button, is still a switch for AV / TV and the Power button for the power supply. Besides the large display can be found on the back of the P various switches and knobs. But these are the usual suspects such as menu, delete, four-point controller for navigation, playback etc. The optical viewfinder has a Dioptrinverstellung.
The quality of the little buttons and wheel is quite responsive but not the last word. At the bottom of the camera is only the compartment for storage media and batteries, as well as the tripod mount. This is neither the center nor appropriate in the optical axis. Right and left of the housing there are flaps covering the connecting contacts to other media. On the left is a pfriemeliges Kläppchen for an external Micro. The for the HDMI and the USB connector is slightly better to handle. Class are the two permanently mounted eyelets for the camera strap. Class because in this camera category really a must, is the hot shoe. This completes the still very opulent amenities. Also, the charger that comes with several plug-in elements, is class.
When switching is clear. The display with 900,000 pixels is a grenade. Oh that would be foldable! Due to the many cogs operability is done mercilessly good and fast. The operating concept of the P is really well thought out. I do not have hooks found. Moreover, many keys, including the FN key can be freely assigned and also makes the camera operation really easy.
Many buttons and wheel also means many settings. The P7000 is already on upscale DSLR level, in terms of opportunities. Even a digital spirit level not fehlr the good piece. Of course, they can also automatic, but that's "pearls before swine" and more of a side effect of many modes. The GPS module of the predecessor weggefallene I do not miss. Practically I think the D-Lightning, one in the P50 for the first time (for compact) used, somewhat betagtere but really useful function. The camera shadow regions lightens the image to something. With the Nikon works really well.
How then are the pictures? Since I have a GF-1 I was very excited about it. Just the Nikon would with the 'optics, with a focal length range of 28-200mm, an ideal compact replacement for the Panasonic MFT. With Aperture 2.8 at wide angle and still good 5.6 at 200, the Nikon is very well positioned. Focusing goes really fast. The AF is as zooming, afloat in the matter. Bucking the trend, the Nikon is also a real snapshot camera. From power on to triggering passes very little time. LX3, EX1 and the G have here clearly at a disadvantage. Prima is also the pre-selection of zoom levels that can be accessed as quickly and efficiently. The (again) bandied AF problems has not my copy.
The images themselves are compact for level really very good. Despite the 1:.. 1.7 "sensor, the Nikon delivers brilliant images compared with the GF-1, which we all know has a much larger sensor The pictures are wonderfully sharp and really neat even when Pixelpeeping The Nikon knows anything about photography is clearly felt. This experience went into the development of the P7000 with and does her really well. Nikon tuning Retouch meets my taste. The P7000 provides very pleasant color images. The noise is despite the significantly smaller sensor, in about the same level the GF-1 and for a compact thus excellent. Regarding the AWB (Auto White Balance) I had some outliers adjacent, but disappears in the manual tuning. Manual setting is and remains the first choice. But that's not in the DSLRs different.
Eierlegende Wollmilchsäue as the built-28-200 lens are usually not without blemish. Something is always, no matter if distortion, vignetting, etc. Nikon P7000 given an effective distortion correction to the hand, what is clearly seen in the wide-angle end to the images, or no longer be seen. Here Nikon has done an excellent job.
The series of multiple images could still be a bit better, but the bottom line that's already whining at the highest level. The image quality of video recordings to judge others. For me it does not matter, while it remains.

My Conclusion:
The Nikon can inspire. The operating concept, and their equipment, which can easily be called the opulent, leave the DSLR fan really no choice but to strike. The Nikon P7000 is just the second camera is all too searched. Small but with the controls and functions of a DSLR. The picture quality is in accordance with good and excellent optics does the rest to having to inspire you. The many useful little helpers make the P to a really good, almost semi-professional tool. Contrary to models of other manufacturers, the P7000 is also suitable for snapshot, usually a great disappointment in the creative models such as Pana LX3 or Samsung EX1.
Just the feel clouded my view of the camera a bit and let the fresh glamor a little less shine. This may sound petty, but at the cost price quite ascertain as a fact. Nevertheless, the Nikon is a real highlight. I'll have to keep well. Besides Digilux and Co. 5 star for the Japanese image apparatus.
