Now I take pictures already 6 days with my new Nikon D300 and am still thrilled, No thrills me every day more. But from the front. To select stood with me the Canon 40D and the D300. When my dealer I borrowed both for 2 days out and tested extensively both cameras. The observed differences from me would go beyond this framework. In summary, among other things gave the better picture quality, the more ergonomic menu navigation, the great display and inspire confidence more mechanical quality the balance in favor of the D300. A camera, working with the need to possess a solid and reliable mechanics. The greatest confidence exuded for me just the Nikon. The change from my previous camera D100 to D300 was easy pronounced. A familiar operating environment. Only the multi selector switches differently than you're used to it but I got used quickly. Particularly impressed me mM. according to best and most brilliant display in the market. Together with the extremely practical Live View and the huge viewing angle of the display outstanding results and new perspectives are possible even in difficult shooting situations and points of view. Only a foldable display's missing me. Image control and navigation are just great. Impressive me, as the total of 51! AF fields ensure the sharpness of the motif-tracking. The shutter lag is much lower than with my old D100 as well as the on-time. Especially like with the possibility photos in original RAW and JPEG save fine-quality - for future glossy prints, posters and high-quality processing RAW is simply indispensable, the parallel Jpeg help in sorting. I operate the camera with the optional Battery Pack MB-D10. On a long shoot on the Tux glacier at -10 degrees to the battery for a second and 8 frames / s submitted for demanding action shootings in the halfpipe weakened. A glossy poster series is currently in print. For me, the D300 is worth every penny and I can fully recommend for professional and ambitious amateur photographers. But a full-frame sensor would be quite nice ;-)
Supplement 17.01.2008 Now I take pictures even more than 1 month with the D300. As an interim conclusion, after certainly more than 4000 shots, my first impression was clearly confirmed. She is now my preferred camera. Even the analog be taken less and less out of the closet. I can particularly inspire me to 100%! Viewfinder - class! And the really first-class noise performance - up to ISO 1600 barely perceptible. For difficult lighting situation an absolute plus. Of course, now also a few negative sides have shown on the D 300. The tarnish the image not noticeably, but sometimes disturbing yet.
- Exploit the possibilities of the live view in difficult situations I really missing a foldable monitor yet. Meanwhile, I have me an accessory of Emperor, which is mounted on the viewfinder risen. - An image stabilizer in the housing could be me use my old lenses better. - Focusing in Live View mode is sometimes quite slow.
So, I hope my little interim conclusion after about one month can help you with your purchase decision. Should happen special, so I'll just go on writing this review.
