As I said, there are Shirataki noodles in various forms, from different manufacturers --- the pack sizes (drained) are different. For me, my first contact was with Shirataki an exciting experiment, and there were surprises / findings / disappointments ...
The impetus to try this noodle substitute gave me a book of 5: 2 Diet recipes [* 1]
Tip: In the book interesting, calorie and KH-poor alternatives to noodles are called, such as noodles zucchini or cauliflower rice) Meanwhile, is likely to have spread even when LOW CARB people that these special pasta * without carbs *. there ... but with many restrictions!
My Appreciation (5 Stars) is already fixed:
Shirataki noodles are a great alternative (true to the * *) for diet daily or almost daily, as I with a 5: 2 lead through diet (Intermittent Fasting).
!!! Whether I'll chew tasteless noodles until my dying day, I doubt it, great fun is not !!!
There is just no advantage (hardly calories) without any disadvantage (restrictions in taste).
In addition to Shirtaki pasta I've tried some of the above alternatives, if any, I would zucchini noodles as competitors look (vaim summer I would recommend this Zucchini variant the Shirataki noodles prefer).
From what I have found out before, and in my tests, I decided in a sort of FAQ-shape to try everything in order to write down their own experiences are incorporated in addition to facts.
(In the course of my research, I finally found out also that there are exactly such sites already. I did not deliberately cribbed from these sites ...)
* What is special about Shirataki Noodles?
They have little calories, are gluten-free, also are well suited for low carb kitchen, so if you want to avoid carbohydrates.
* Facts?
100 grams contain 5 calories / 3g carbs
* Other names?
Shirataki noodles are also called glucomannan noodles.
* What are these noodles?
1) water
2) Konjakwurzel flour: These noodles are made from the flour of the roots of devil's tongue (konjac root). The tuber is rich in glucomannans (polysaccharides). In the EU, the flour of the konjac root (Konjac flour) is listed as a food additive E 425.
3) = E526 calcium hydroxide, also: slaked lime, hydrated lime, (White) hydrated lime, hydrated lime) is calcium hydroxide. In the food industry ... as acidity regulator added to foods ... without maximum limit (quantum satis) generally approved for food. "- Very interesting what you calcium else is using ;-).
(Source of some facts mentioned here is wikipedia.de)
* Look?
Similarly, glass noodles, but firmer consistency.
* How are they delivered?
What was not clear to me, because I did not know that: The noodles are not dry, how the supplied knows of (wheat flour) pasta or rice noodles, but in liquid.
The package that I received felt more difficult than presumed. - First surprise: The pasta swimming in a smelling fish Lake, are stable sealed in plastic. This was true for all different producers that are included in the tasting packages.
* How do they taste?
As the producer / seller occasionally indicating here at Product Description: The liquid in which the noodles are inserted, smells like fish. When you open the package, that scares once from - me at least!
The noodles can be problematic rinse in a colander.
After preparation - I must anticipate - they taste simply for nothing, take the best case, the taste of sauces, even on ...
My husband and I could not find anything more after preparation of a fish-flavored.
* What consistency they have?
Rubber-like would be a bit exaggerated, but they have ultimately a tougher consistency as one that knows of pasta or rice noodles. Al dente, you might say. (It probably also depends on how long you fry them still parboiling after the short dry in a pan ...)
* Can I use it as a substitute for pasta or China Wok dishes?
Definitive YES. Can you do that already! It's (taste / consistency) still a world of difference, which I hereby do not criticize, only anmerke.
* How are they prepared?
I have noticed the (relatively inaccurate) the manufacturer's instructions here. Pasta - after rinsing! - Short (1 minute maximum) in set boiled water. Then allow to drain well. They can be either immediately after the cause (with sauces or vegetables) or - what I anrate urgently - in a (coated) pan, or in a little oil [* 2] fry.
When searing water will evaporate - the noodles are thus slightly drier, but not soft.
But I suspect that that may then absorb more flavor of eg a sauce ...
* What do they cost?
I have calculated an average price of 1.25 euros / 100 grams (drained). Depends certainly also on the variety and the supplier, or the package size.
* Durability?
For varieties, which I ordered in Sept 2013 the SAS MHD was on the delivered packs 06/2014 to 03/2015.
* How do the different varieties (as far as I known to date)?
Spaghetti (green / orange packaging) ... ca.2mm thick ... as a substitute for real wheat spaghetti; eg to a vegetable-tomato sauce
Tagliatelle (blue packaging) ... 6mm wide ... to cooked in sauce.
Konnyaku - noodles Fish Well (pack with green label) ... like spaghetti, but as a small noodle node ... suitable for China-courts (in the frying pan)
Sau Tao (colorful pack) ... like spaghetti, but as a small noodle node ... suitable for China-courts (in the frying pan)
BOLD Spaghetti (green / orange-colored packaging) ... 3-4mm thick spaghetti ... as a substitute for real wheat spaghetti; eg to a vegetable and tomato sauce or a rather thickened Gorgonzola sauce (I would not buy again, this variety is too stubborn - well - a matter of opinion)
My favorite are the tagliatelle offered here and then the spaghetti (green / orange) and then packaging. In combination with a Bolognese sauce with a little lean beef, much tomato, carrot and fresh soup greens and herbs As I said, did not so long ago to feed me a life, but he is for now and then, or as a support in a diet prima helpers.
