In my opinion, a LCD viewfinder is an indispensable accessory for DSLR cameras. I use a Canon 600D among other things, and was therefore looking for a flexible possible LCD viewfinder, which is also the swiveling display, and a connected battery grip, justice. I found that the Hoodman Cinema Kit is an unusual format and at the price I had promised a fairly high-quality product to me.
Unfortunately Hoodloupe is just bad, simply no sensible LCD viewfinder. I have the Hoodloupe the cheapest viewfinder of my knowledge compared (in this case the version of the 600D: LCD screen magnifier - Viewfinder for Canon EOS 600D & 60D LCD V3), a Chinese product that depending on where you buy it 10-45 costs, much less so in any case, compared to the 100 of the Hoodman-Loupe.
A good LCD viewfinder should shield dazzling light and at the same time enlarge the view as a magnifying glass (!), So colors and sharpness can be properly assessed. The Hoodloupe but the way in spite of its name ('Loupe') no zoom function (!), But you would need additionally the Hoodman HoodMag 3.0 Hoodloupe eyecup with 3x magnification, which in turn will increase the price again some. To make matters worse the Hoodloupe is with attached HoodMag but even almost useless because the edges come across just totally blurred. In short: This is not at all! Without the zoom function Hoodloupe is for me not a full viewfinder, with zoom function, ie with HoodMag, just still unusable. A magnifying glass is but really not rocket science, as well as the China-variant demonstrates dramatically magnifies the entire screen properly and sharp displays. What did this is only intended for Hoodman ??? Maybe just the previous model without substantial revision for larger 3 "displays adapted poorly?
Admittedly, the process and materials used to make (especially against the China version) a good impression. The Hoodloupe is robust and the shaft of rubber can be very good press to the display without this kind of damaging. The rubber also prevents excessive reflections inside the shaft.
In addition, the Hoodloupe has a diopter compensation, the example of the mentioned favorable Viewfinder has not. But there are other cheaper products, which also have a diopter compensation, eg this product: Delamax by GGS LCD screen magnifier 3.0x - Viewfinder - with diopter adjustment - for filming with DSLRs - eg Canon EOS 7D, 5D Mark II, 60D, 600D, 550D , 500D; Nikon D300s, D90, D3100, D3000, D7000; Pentax K-5, K-7 etc ..
Apart from that (I'm wearing glasses) but you can use the low-cost China-Viewfinder thanks very large eyecup with the spectacles, which I think is particularly good since I already feel constantly on and taking off the glasses as annoying. To look through the Hoodloupe with glasses works are less well.
Conclusion:
The Hoodloupe is certainly not bad in every way, but for that price I think you should really should expect a lot more. Slightly more accessories it should have been at this price (eg a protective cap for the lens or the separately sold tethers). An eye cup is also not there. Instead, the accessory is sold separately also extremely high prices. I wonder also about the name 'Loupe' where the product but has no magnification.
Therefore, I rate the price / performance ratio with only 2 stars.
