Desolation of Smaug is overall not a masterpiece. Although the film is full of special effects and computer animation great, so 2 stars, but not much else offers. The storyline is weak, does not provide any surprises or even turns and runs a full 2 hours and 41 minutes in an awkward length. In addition, no suspense who takes one or even shiver and cheer leaves arises. The whole troop runs from A to B and is fighting every few minutes to any man (elves, orcs, spiders, Smaug). Frodo takes place the ring on and - great - he is invisible, freed the other and ... and ??? Since nothing comes. No major dialogues, no love affair, no heartache and no witty or ironic scenes. Parallel actions anyway. Each event is plump predictable. Simply concatenated fights with head off and Hau plan. This is clearly not enough for a film that wants to be a masterpiece. Going to the movies, I would never go for it!
