I looked for a HDMI switch with analog audio output, to hear even without switched on TV music of the "WD TV Live" and the Raspberry Pi with XBMC on the stereo amplifier. While the "WD TV Live" has an analog audio output, the Raspberry Pi but not (at least not in good quality). With the help of this 4x1 HDMI switches with audio output so it can be "bypassed" the telly when listening to music on devices with HDMI output.
The sound quality on the jack output is good; mentions a "dull" sound as in the review from 01/28/2013 I could not tell - the frequency response does not differ from that of the analog output of the WD TV Live (hab's measured). But it is true that the output signal at the jack output is noticeably quieter than, say, the analog output of the TV or the WD TV Live; the volume of playback devices must be adjusted when switching the analog output between telly and HDMI Switch therefore always.
The remote control is a bad joke (tiny, cheap keypad; requires a button cell; very short range; must be aligned exactly, often requires 2-3 keystrokes, which until does). I would rather pay 5 euros more and had a reasonable remote control.
Unfavorable I find the arrangement of the input "HDMI 1" on the right side. So the device can not be accommodated in a space-saving, especially as the unit can be set up not "hidden" because of the low range of the remote. You could use the HDMI input 1 even simply leave blank if you connect fewer devices, but unfortunately this input is after switching on the device selected by default, and if you're not after every power only wants to select the input of the first device, must This inappropriately fitted HDMI input are occupied.
Here are the combined (+) positive and () minuses in my view:
(+) The quality of analog audio output is good (frequency response).
() The output level of the jack output is compared with the level at the RCA output of my TVs by about 7-8 dB lower (a factor of 2.24 ... 2.51).
() The remote control is rather a makeshift.
() Unfavourable lateral arrangement of the input "HDMI 1".
() The paint on the front page had a small flaw.
Conclusion: Actually, the device is quite OK and is serving; due to the above mentioned negatives (mainly output level and remote) but I still have to deduct 2 stars. (5 Stars I forgive only when a product "perfect" and leaves nothing to be desired.)
