The device makes a high impression, looks great and has lots of features. Alone, that you have multiple cockpit views to choose from, is very helpful. Since the monitor is indeed quite large, you can still show some additional functions. I have set residual kilometers, ETA, current speed and direction. But the device has so many features that I now do not want to list all, probably not even all have found. And probably I need no more than the channels found until now.
And now after 4 weeks of continuous testing in the motor home my first experiences:
I have entered the dimensions and the total weight of our vehicle. Although campers to my knowledge do not belong to the truck, it is quite useful to be advised at least to height restrictions. In addition, you do not want to navigate the smallest and narrowest streets. But here already is the first criticism. You can choose between cars, trucks and RV. After the route command, there are only cars and trucks. Our vehicle mutated then the truck. Interesting is the fact that the product does truck route planning often the message out there trucks admissibility unknown. When searching for camping or caravan sites, I can still understand. But if you have entered at avoidances highway, it also leads through the middle of downtown areas, by Tempo-30 and traffic-calmed zones. Even worse, it leads on roads, the general count as per thousand ways. Even forest and gravel roads we met in this way. What with the camper just goes, should make the trucker for the occasional sweating. But maybe that does not happen so, if the dimensions and weights of a right truck to enter. But I can not judge.
When the former border crossing in the Netherlands was no message, as I am used to from other Navis. So also no indication of the force there speed limits. And the route guidance in Holland was to lengths more adventurous than in Germany. Mostly we wanted the equipment really guide on walks through the woods. Here you have to then stop before the brain turn. Once it wanted to steer a parallel leading to a main road Wirtschaftsweg us even! And not on this road. Due to the large display, we also clearly see that this was no deception on our part.
And all this, although it is set in the quickest route preferences. There is also a setting in a straight line, but as the track can not actually be much shorter.
Nevertheless, the route guidance with the aid of maps and involvement of the brain is not as bad as perhaps may sound. On motorways it was even properly. Whereby that's not art but. The TMC has worked well, it kept us at the very beginning of the journey before hours of full closure on the A7. And half an hour before the message came on the radio. According to the proposed leaving the motorway, the route was then but not always comprehensible.
The device also has a voice control, which I only used once more or less involuntarily. I sneezed and namely immediately jumped to the screen, and the Navi voice asked me to enter a command.
To sum up for me the following picture:
Praise:
- Many setting possibilities.
- Nevertheless, clear display.
- Ordinary washer fitting, although it does not look like it.
- Bluetooth connectivity for mobile phones properly. Only the volume of the loudspeaker is much lower when telephoning
as the other announcements, so you have to increase this during the conversation. And this is only about
Touchscreen and submenu.
- In standby mode, only small discharge.
- Little to no glare in sunlight.
- Clear, easy to understand the content and timely voice prompts.
- Satellites quickly.
- The ultimate goal is most well-found. For this, a Navi is also thought. For the route there
Signs and maps.
- Turns night and in tunnels known automatically to night mode.
- Voice control possible.
Censure:
- Very many avoidances possible, but is no way to avoid the tunnel.
- TMC antenna is not integrated into the disc holder, but from a separate cable with two suction cups
consisting of the windshield. In our vehicle I simply loose on the dashboard
lie.
- Can no routes with more than 300km length calculate when motorways are to be avoided.
- Because touchscreen prone to fingerprints.
- Routing partially adventurous. No comparison with Google Maps!
- Battery as usual not interchangeable.
- Maps on the device and not on the SD card. Internal memory of the device is almost completely exhausted. Should
the new maps have even a few MB more, it's probably gone with the lifelong updates.
- No mains charger included.
- Detailed instruction manual is only available as a download.
All in all, the device would be perfect if it had a route such as Google Maps. The pretty hefty price of the device is just about acceptable for the large display and the advantages described. But if you can do without the large display, you can actually save as a driver of a motorhome truck function and fall back on a cheaper device.
