Negatives:
- Only 2 LEDs for charging the battery and on / off, which is very lean ...
- No "Service flaps" on the bottom of the case - to change / upgrade of Ram HDD or the entire unit must be disassembled
- Battery is "fixed" installed
- No USB ports on the back
Neutral:
- Windos driver for W8 there are probably all on the Acer page for W7 Mussmann look for the reference driver from Intel and install it manually, but who already used Windos?
- Glare display, I feel it is very good, the device use but only internally as a desktop replacement
- No Bluethooth, but I do not need anyway ....
positive:
- Looks classy and the plastic housing is more stable than expected
- Enough power for the price
- Numeric keypad
- Quiet
Test:
First test installation with Lubuntu 12.04 was felt painfully slow, with Windos-users themselves can only dream of it (only the system, any updates and any additional programs!) - Took almost 45 minutes!
Wi-Fi and sound did not go, mouse / touchpad very inaccurate.
Second Test with Lubuntu 14:04 - Wlan went, mouse / touchpad accuratly, again no sound :-(
Linux Mint Live system booted, sound was there, so no hardware defect, as my first fear was. Quick research on the net, the "problem" had already others on other devices.
The solution was simple, 2 packages that have to do with the sound easy to install again and already went ....
The complete installation including updates of all the programs that I "need" and set according to personal taste lasted about 45 minutes -. It is equipped with a comparable installation as Windos
slightly busy several days ;-)
All in all, you have to be clear that it is a "low-cost" consumer device, but it's really top.
The battery life is by the manufacturer with approx 6h. given - in power but complained about the fact that people only 2-3std. Duration coming ....
I suppose that is the Redmond-energy management .....
In my installation I have consistently all energy saving possibilities disconnected - all set to maximum power and then once started following applications:
3x Firefox, each with 5-8 tabs and multiple downloads, thunderbird, Htop, run VLC with several videos and a DVD - all smoothly, one after the other with Arista umkonvertiert movies
Krusader for FTP download several 100GB, LibreOffice - even if one does nothing with it, hängts in memory rum ...
In addition, several USB devices hanging off - mouse, loud speaker, 2 sticks .....
after 4.5 hrs. showed me the equipment a residual charge of 1h. 10 min at - so come fairly out with the 6h. I habs but not managed to get the battery is empty, or even to get the fan "audible"
which was also the one or other point of criticism in recessions.
The notebook has "only" 4GB Ram - for Windos probably already lean under Lubuntu I grad times about 1GB wasted in the action described ....
The CPU I can not fully utilize, although there were "spikes" on a core of 100% but only in the short term.
Conclusion:
a suitable with minor restrictions for Linux laptop with enough power to drive the narrow Taler.
