I. (Ur -) - Commute: ca. 2003-2008, with a thick foam padding rear laptop compartment in the bag (not extra)
II. Commute 2.0: mounted of about 2008 to 2011, be recognized by the rubberized floor and using laptop pocket on front, the plunging neckline and the position of the handle and belt angle
III. Commute 2012: the changes since 2012, current, version offered here
To offer here Timbuk2 Commute 2012:
Pro:
===
+ The quality of Timbuk2 bags is excellent. In my view, there is otherwise only with Eastpak.
+ The laptop plugged into a separate compartment. Who ever had a laptop had to put in a full bag, will appreciate that in the long run.
+ The size (here: medium) is excellent. Not too big, not too small, it will fit a lot in. My 14.1 "Dell Latitude E6430 fits in easy and has a lot of space to the side.
+ The Commute 2012 is coming with so-called. Napoleon pocket, which is a small compartment that can be accessed via a zip closure with a closed door.
+ In contrast to its predecessor, lacking a rigid partition between the large front compartment and the laptop compartment. Thus, the bag sits more like a messenger bag. The handle is not so evident in the operation, it looks by the fact not as stiff.
+ The trolley strap on the back is secured by a Velcro bottom and can be used as a subject (the full width with the slot as shown).
Cons:
====
- The front pockets are directed inwards, thus the size of the Innenraumens changed by the payload. This has not so because the bags show in the Commute 2.0 outwardly therefrom.
- The belt is fastened only at the top of the bag sides here and therefore charged the bag only at these points.
- The handle is not as flashy as mentioned in the operation, but it is attached to the flap, so that you can always also charged the flap when you pull the handle. When Commute 2.0 the handle is fixed exactly between the two compartments, so that you can open the door without load and the pocket is better balanced. This is perhaps a trifle, but if you know the difference, which is a disadvantage in the Commute 2012 Design.
- The padding in laptop sleeve is a little thin. Here is a simple plug-in casing with space for your own laptop neoprene case would be better - and in all Commute bags. You have to remove the laptop anyway at EU airports so that this TSA thing is rather a weary marketing argument. So at least do not expect too much in the upholstery. Good, but can do better.
- The compartment for the two small units (compared to the laptop sleeve, eg a tablet or eReader) is divided by a fairly strong velcro fastener, called also in the "luggage pass-through" loop very strong for attachment to the trolley. has failed. This certainly has advantages and disadvantages.
- My Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 is processed more thoroughly (ie no protruding threads, etc.)
- It is not a messenger in the traditional sense, but a laptop bag in the style of a Messenger. For the Messenger additional straps are missing at the bottom.
I would Commute 2012 allen recommend those who want to have a good laptop bag that is not too much looks like a briefcase, and is suitable both for leisure as well as for the office. However, I have them sent back and the entire Internet is searched for a deliverable Commute 2.0 M in size, that could inspire me more.
And that is a pocket AGAIN buys because you're convinced of the quality - I think that is a very nice selling point for Timbuk2 bags.
One more thing to liter specification: I guess a mistake here because something is on the Timbuk2 site of 23 liters. So please do not get confused by the information, which is especially true for the laptop size information on the Timbuk2 site. In the liter and size information you can not leave here only helps test. Even in my Timbuk2 Commute 2.0 in Size S (Small) still fit a 2006-spec 15.4 "MacBook Pro easy clean. The key here is probably more the depth, which is especially true for those laptops where the battery pack is (12" , 13, 14 "Lenovo, HP, Dell with 9-cell battery). The large sizes all fall out very generous and the width is often less of a limiting factor.
Would it be my first Timbuk2 bag, I'd probably be awarded more points.
And one more thing to the other two models "Command" and "D-Lux". The D-Lux is missing a plug-in tab for the trolley and the Command has so weird locks (with hooks). Of the Timbuk2 Laptop Bags enabled the Commute series is in my view been the best choice.
