My lamp I have now operated since 1997 or 1998. The first years with Duracell alkali briefly with normal batteries (Cd and NiMH: rapid self-discharge & in cold unusable) and lithium batteries (light and cold-resistant, but very expensive), then Sanyo Eneloops shortly after their release (early 2006?) and now with Sanyo XX (since winter 2011/2012). The lamp together with the holder still doing its job. The visibility is with several differently aligned LEDs compared to other current lamps (2013er / 2014er models) to be very good - forth by both the light intensity and the visible angle. This lamp soltle twice by more modern models as "Premium manufacturers" are replaced, but the one was to not mel one year over and the other wanted to go a few weeks no longer ride and has adopted together with the holder.
How vitamin_sea describes that battery charging is a bit awkward because the housing can not be opened easily. However, a Eneloop- and XX-charge holds many weeks until the warning light appears. Even after that are still quite a few hours spare it, because the warning threshold is most likely designed for the voltage drop curve of a conventional battery (at least in the older lamps).
The lamp is not the smallest, leichtetste or brightest in the market, but more than 15-year-old design is still fully competitive. The connected to a personal long-term experience of 15 years can forgive me 5 stars.
