One of the best Hard Rock Live discs!

The Spirit (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Live recordings (especially those of the Hard Rock Group) are indeed such a thing. One often has the impression, if it were all about the quick buck: carelessly thrown together, production technology unsatisfactoy Compilations to the ich-hab-eh-alle-Alben-und-sämtliche-Bootlegs-und-überhaupt-alles-was-den-Namen-meiner-Heroen-trägt-Fans to satisfy ... (At this point, my greetings to the Nu-rock journeyman: it takes more than two hyped albums to publish a best-of-live album should.)
That it can be done differently, shows the British hard rock band Magnum. For more than twenty years in the business, Magnum still is part of the spearhead of melodic metal. Despite individual solo projects of singer Bob Catley and guitarist Tony Clarkin and the obligatory, tearful at least on side of the fans separation six years ago: Magnum is back. Including a new album and tour wider ("Breath of Life"), with a new drummer and bassist. But otherwise all the old ones, which proves itself again in 2002.
The atmosphere of Magnum concerts whose balance between midtempo bombastic crackers (eg "Vigilante", "Mom" or "Kingdom of Madness") and the quieter, undoubtedly Seelig-giving numbers (as "Les Morts Dansants" and the spine-tingling guaranteeing title track ) have already been captured in such authentic in the 1991 "The Spirit" album that even for non-Magnum-Kenner) has (a real pleasure. A very clean production, a crystal clear sound and not least a representative selection of songs with 75min (!) season, let the hearts of all Heart Rocker beat Granted. Some songs could be safely replaced by another (so maybe "When the World Comes Down" by On A Storyteller's Night-sweeper "Just like a Arrow" or "Pray for the Day "by" Do not Wake The Lion ") - but then came another, which in turn would rather ...
A clear advantage of the CD: You can enjoy the magnificent music with no visual impairment due to the movement mutants Catley, the one most like the arms would be tied at the concert. It would fully suffice to hear sing to the Lord, but you can not just have everything. Nevertheless, the chance of a concert visit should not be missed. First, there are few events where all visitors can sing each line - this is indeed not even to be expected in the Sunday - and secondly Clarkin shows the rest of the (rock) world what it means to age gracefully: No Gepose, no Look-here-I-Tret-still-in-the A ....- attitude. So mote it. Straightforward, sovereign, perfectly crafted. Herrlich.
What remains is one of the best live discs that have ever seen the laser in the world. Who Magnum experienced live or have never been able to experience live, should definitely set this disc. Former timeless memorandum, the latter a melodic revelation.
Thoroughly recommended.
