Günde for success almost uncanny, there are many. On the one hand was present disc with the also highly successful predecessors (money or your life) or less a kind red carpet rolled out (certainly were many newly acquired followers wondering what because there could be supplied), on the other, Mastermind and EAV head Thomas Spitzer was well in its zenith. All punchlines ignite - every bitter black phrase hits the bull's eye! Added to this are the pretty melodies of the songs and a big fat, highly professional production (mixing, mastering) Regulations. I even believe that to this day no EAV album has come on the market that could provide technically sound in the shadows of love, death and the devil.
This is also that plate, the last time you worked on any (real) EAV sizes. In addition to the time duration creative Spitzer, were also master artist Klaus Eberhartinger, Nino Holm, Mario Bottazzi, Eik wide and Anders Stenmo of the party. Not forgetting of course Günther Schönberger, who mainly acting made its appearance at live shows (and in the studio was most responsible among other things for backing vocals and saxophone parts).
Mr Bottazzi, which represented an asset to the bitter Blödel Kombo certainly was, on development process of the successor work (NEPPOMUKS REVENGE, 1990) already no longer involved, for the (very successful) Tour anno 1990/1991 was then Andy Töfferl (who unfortunately already deceased is) hired. But that was then still in the future ...
Anyway takes love, death & DEVIL (which was untertituliert here as part 1, although there is still no 2nd part in) a very special place in the EAV history, but also in the history of a Austropop!
One can indeed that nowadays no longer actually present. The SAB was actually shown on prime time on TV - even with really big quota smashers such as Wetten dass ... Austrian Monty Python version was loaded ... But well, said show's by now no longer ...
This plate can be called rightly as a concept album. The songs do not depend necessarily thematically closely, but with the consistently successful cutscenes ("3 love penguins" as intro and outro, "Yes, That Jazz" towards the end of the A-side (which one in CD listening originally brought even not be really aware of is)) results almost inevitably something like a red thread. Which brings us (finally) had arrived at the songs ...
With "The Princess and the hand, beautiful woman" (what's in the notes of this CD kindly even an uncensored maxi version are as candy quasi) contains love, death & DEVIL already the most successful EAV single release of all time. Band classics like "At the Copacabana" or the once very controversial "Burli" (the bitter Chernobyl and its consequences pokes and was even boycotted the German Broadcasting) round off this album, so to speak further from complacent.
But even the supposedly not so popular tracks such as the title track (with evil, evil swipes at the sometimes dubious morality of the Catholic. Church) or "Death" can inspire effortlessly.
Titles like "Tarzan and Jane" or the now legendary "Sandlerkönig Eberhard" (a modified, tragicomic Romeo-and-Juliet story) are characterized by their great, timeless melodies and the Prince Charles-Verapfelung Ear Troubles is already alone their stomping grooves and the great sound aesthetics for (no kidding - you hear comparatively productions by international artists from that time on!) a treat for the ears (in the truest sense of the word). Lyrically you can - as already mentioned at the beginning - anyway bekriteln nothing. Only the very UMPAPA-UMPAPA-like pre-supporting "On the Nepperbahn" has been able to convince me to incl. Today never really (lyrically but also top).
In addition to the already extremely successful to herein overall package is still lovingly designed booklet that the curious gleanings ends listeners presented as motley mini-comic - here was a Thomas Spitzer fully at the height of his creative ...
Conclusion: Even not so hardcore fans EAV would love, death & DEVIL really call their own. Here applies very good music, packaged in a harmonious concept, a great production (probably the best ever to date - at least what concerns the EAV). The lyrics are anyway beyond doubt ...
What only a little bothers me is that you always want the EAV nowadays stuck in a kind Kabarrett Pop drawer. Of course, Spitzer & Co. make fun of here much and of course the crazy stage shows were always a central part of the program. However, I believe that especially the older EAV plates also quite easily can classify as pop / rock music. It seems to me sometimes before so, as if the musical abilities of the (former) to very crowded group members in the background. Hear (or see) you can but please even excerpts of that tour! Also extracts the '91 tour, or Art-Tour (1995), which thanks's God indeed is a more than worthy live recording, you will find out very quickly before our eyes, what great musicians these multi-talented "pop Blödler" also were , Of course, has changed since then so many. For me personally the actual (great-) EAV has indeed with NEVERMORE ART (and afterwards tour anno 94/95.) Ceased to exist (a shame that because - if we are to believe some reports - has fallen out sometimes so angry ) ... Sometimes the individual components of a whole are just not easy to do so up for it. And the sole whereabouts of the duo sharpener / Eberhartinger my opinion is not enough just to maintain the name EAV worthy. Compare with older latest show recordings (eg via YouTube) - then you will already know what I mean ...
Love, death & devil is clearly assessable only by Höchstbewertungsmaß for me - as well the EAV was subsequently actually never again (although it must be said that it also succeeds works (NEPPOMUKS revenge WATUMBA !, to incl NEVER AGAIN. ART should not despise quite)!
(And so as a child excited heard then removed from the consciousness.) Also, when I took a long time to understand it - the (original) EAV is really not something you would be embarrassed! But on the contrary. Albums like this one are the best proof !!
Too bad that the current "EAV infusion" more of a beer tent entertainment reminded as to glory days as once! At the time, level, humor, music and entertainment were actually hand in hand - but listen for yourself ...
