Anticipation equals the downside: The infrared scan does not work with SW movies! More precisely, not in movies with silver coating. These films no infrared scan can work. Unless you like funny alienations ... annoying that this is not mentioned in the description. (Hence only 4 stars) In times of digital photography you will use this type scanner yes mostly for old, historical films. So at SW films remains only the software to remove dust, scratches, etc. This brings of course nowhere near the success of infrared scans, but should not be a reason not to use this scanner. Also höchstpreisigste devices can not. With the scan quality I am very satisfied, since there is no criticism. The infrared scan almost perfectly with color negatives and slides. The included SilverFast software could be installed without any problems. As a "non-Lore", one however is the absence of reasonable manual, only with persistence and try to achieve success (Win8). SilverFast can in any case a lot! But there is literature about this software, I do not know, however. The processing of the device is eiwandfrei, as are the included film holders. The simplest operation. For this price you get a decent machine with good software. Of course, the scanning process will take its time depending on the setting, there is the possibility a low scan noise. The film strips or slides must be individually placed in the holder, which has to be adjusted manually after each scan. This takes time. If this is too slow, too cumbersome is must hold minimum to create a thousand. The scan is then automatically however. This type scanner can also be borrowed. Conclusion: highly recommended! Assuming some time. To scan and get to know the software
