And one anticipated - this part meets the Kalahari outstanding.
Looks totally inconspicuous from - more like a college bag with school books in it.
I also feel the cotton material to be very pleasant and visually appealing - in contrast to most plastic bombers in this category.
But the weaknesses stuck -like so OFT in detail and usually come only in practice daily.
It started with the setting of the carrying strap.
Apparently, the man of a 2m was developed and tested. With my 1.73m the belt in the shortest setting is just too long and dangles almost pocket amounting my knee. Only after violent remodeling work I can ergonomically carry the bag now.
The next disillusionment followed with the zippers. These are quite hakelig and obviously not of the best quality. It can be guessed that are not keeping them long.
Another (small) nuisance - there is no double zippers. In the small slit pocket on the lid ok - on the back also. But in the front compartment sizes that would be very helpful - especially the zipper is not above sitting ends, but the sides still runs down and you can not see directly the pull tab from the top.
However, the most annoying is the inlay.
The inlay mainly equipment can -praktischerweise- remove, so that you could actually similar pocket as college bag can be used. Practical secondary use.
However, it is provided with another "cover" in the form of a fold-down flap. This tab is very unruly and prevents rapid re-plugging the camera in your pocket. I must always keep laboriously opened with one hand this 2nd cover to the camera with parking angesetzem lens can again. Often I then stay on the upholstery or the cap hanging. And this I find very impractical and annoying.
Finally, the case has already a "cover" in the form of the wrap.
Equipment
I get the following below:
- 5D MKII (no BG) with angesetzem 24-105L
- 16-35 / 2.8L
- 80-200 / 2.8L
- Ext. Flash
- Small items in the front pocket.
Then the bag is but really crammed. 2. A body you get necessary even still, but that's just pure transport and no safe, viable option more. One would have to then open the all-round zip. Then the bag is really big.
If you want to use the bag full size, it is recommended that nachzukaufen larger inlay. Thus the equipment is then better protected, since the bag without inlay yes has only a relatively thin outer skin.
As a very practical, I feel the little pocket on the union - because you can quickly little things like lens cap, wallet, etc. stow.
Respect. the rain security you have to be clear that the disadvantage of (unwaxed) cotton bag is that it absorbs the moisture like a sponge. That was clear to me before and I do not mind.
The rain has to be very great and lasting order something comes to the equipment. There is also still the inlay as additional protection. ;-)
On the Internet there is also some evidence on the use of impregnating sprays find etc.
I think if you go on a photo safari, no alternative to a waterproof backpack walks past anyway. But that's not the MMN application of the Kalahari - even if the name suggests otherwise. For the City of protection is always enough. However, the weight of the BW-Bag in wet conditions increases significantly - not only dramatically you should know that.
All in all, you'd think that I have returned to the pocket after my criticism.
NO - I still have.
Overall, the disadvantages for me are not as serious as I wanted to give up the advantages - in particular, that they so do not act like a camera bag. And it came to me. But more than 3 stars is still not there.
PS: Think currently considering whether I cut the annoying 2. tab in the inlay ...
Addendum on 29/11/2010
Have the bag had this 2 days ago in several hours nasty drizzle on the Atlantic coast. As expected the bag outside quite humid and heavy. But inside everything remained dry -Thanks the Inlays-. Thus also passed this test. The problem with the flap sucks more ...
