What makes the success of this agricultural practices maraicher (bio-intensive, low mechanization, heated greenhouse) also limits this concept of gardening (it's not a negative criticism, just an observation which is itself JM Fortier even conscious). Indeed, it is not of agroecology: he bought his ground for sowing compost. But a central principle of agroecology is autonomy. Without regular deliveries of several tons of these materials, operation stops immediately.
Of course we must be able to live of his activity. The author succeeds brilliantly, and definitely proves that organic agriculture can feed the world while being economically viable.
The thought of complex systems paradigm that underlies ecological science (and thus permaculture and agroecology) is not present in this concept of gardening. The disorder does not have a role to play in the health and productivity of vegetables. To practice this complex thought is one of the tasks of the current agriculture (which does though small touches: herbées strips, ponds ... but we must go even further in this direction, as we watch the Agroecology and Permaculture).
