This film, abnormally unknown, shot early in the American period, yet remains a solid film, with stunning realism and a Masters, which he never departed, special effects. This opus to the brilliant staging of brand engagement undoubtedly the film by Alfred Hitchcock for the US intervention in the European conflict and opposite humanistic values the ideals of the National Socialists.
For the record, no said that Alfred Hitchcock originally wanted Gary Cooper plays the lead role but he was not interested in the idea of playing in a thriller, regarded at the time as a lower kind. Nevertheless, several years later, Cooper made his mea culpa and admitted again to Hitchcock have much mistaken in refusing this role, played by Joel McCrea.
In the end, this patriotic feature film and engaged obtained a very large public and critical acclaim and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture of 1940. However he was beaten by another installment of the master of suspense namely the beautiful Rebecca.
Note, that this film deserves whatever view video support; so even if the image quality of a VHS remains a serious gap where one is accustomed to the comfort of a DVD, to miss this film is for me inconceivable!
