PCM Recorder Universally applicable

It surprises me that the Linear PCM Recorder is specified at Amazon as a voice recorder. For me, a voice recorder is just a monophonic sound recording device (earlier mini cassettes) which takes in LoFi quality and reproduces. But it can do much more than just a voice recorder. Previously I had also MiniDisc recorder before stereo microphone recordings made only with cassette player then.

A special concert and I as art and music lovers had made me even as a mobile PCM Recorder the 100 class to purchase. I rummaged something from Amazon and the customer reviews around and got stuck at the Tascam DR-07MKII and ordered him immediately. The recorder was delivered still in time for the concert. I took on the concert. The concert in a church but corresponded to only about low volume. All instruments and vocals took the recorder on well. After my hearing the recorder already reached almost studio quality. The recording of concert sounds almost as to whether I would play a CD produced in the studio. As during the concert suddenly something louder drumbeats came, shone several times to the peak LED. But even there I could hear no distortion. I took the concert in WAV 44.1 kHz 16 bit stereo on. This concert recording made easily from the recorder to the Windows 7 or 8 computers but how about also play the old Win XP computer and was able to edit and then burn them to CD or create MP3 files with Nero Wave Editor as well as Audi City. Sound true still near studio quality.

At home, I did further tests. I could record sound through the headphone output of my home theater system without distortion and in super quality radio or television. But could make good recordings via the headphone output of my Samsung flat TV. I also made the test with the MP3 recording. No WAV recording. I took with MP3 320kbits on the quality and true Okay. I could hear no compression artifacts. Low bitrate MP3 sound rather worse, is also logical.

Then I made a test with the old vinyl record sound. I put on an old 33rpm record Al Stewart, because aware that is it is still analog in the studio recorded. I closed the Tascam to my Sony turntable with phono preamp. But since I already made the first not so good experience. I had to adjust the recording level even turn to 0 and the Peak LED lit still from time to time on. I made recordings but could not hear any distortion Be Thanks again God. Then I made sometimes the test with the 96kHz 24bit stereo resolution. I took the test again the record as well as a normal guitar as a sound source. Since I could but hear no difference between 16bit 44.1kHz or 96kHz 24bit. No wonder that at that time the DVD-Audio has not enforced with 96kHz or higher works. I think the 24bit 96kHz resolution is only for audiophiles or hi-end handset suitable. For the not so discerning ears enough 44.1kHz 16bit fine. By contrast, 96kHz brings only disadvantages as triple space, limited features and a slightly higher battery consumption.

44.1kHz 16bit Stereo is the default setting and that's good, because it is the standard resolution for normal music CD if you want to burn the recording from the recorder to a CD.

So that the recorder is also suitable for digitizing records, cassettes and old tapes. As one more time an indication since the Line In input is very sensitive, unfortunately, when z: B turntables übern HiFi amplifier or receiver is running, does it also the headphone output, as it allows the output level above rules. The Rec Out is not really recommendable. In digitize tapes or cassettes it is good if as a cassette tape recorder or a variable line out or headphone output has. Whoever wants to do outside in nature or even in the city of sound recordings, which should be to buy a windshield because the microphones unfortunately is very sensitive to wind. With

By the way, also recommends a set of headphones to use, since it has a tone control during recording immediately. Best buy a headset to when home a pair of headphones available.

But what I miss on the recorder is a digital audio input, for example, who want to dub old DAT tapes or minidisc recordings or other digital source through digital cable.

What did not work and also tried when digitizing records. Take a turntable with magnetic system to shut it directly at the microphone input of the recorder.
