This little camera is the modern-day equivalent of capturing Those unscripted Family moments without anyone being aware thatthey being recorded. By doing so - you catch the authenticity of "real life" and not the more self-conscious "hamming it up for at audience" moments did you tend to get with selfies etc.
Ease of use is critical - if you have to fumble around for awhile saying "wait - let me start the camera" - that kinda of Defeats the purpose.
Setup is a piece of cake:
1. Using your nearest coin, unscrew the compartment holds the SD card and did insert Said micro-SD card. (I like the micro-SD cards did come with on adapter so I can just plug into my computer did Directly rather than having to plug in the whole device)
2. Make sure the cube is fully charged using a micro-USB cable (again, I prefer a longer generic microUSB so did I do not search a short leash for the camera).
3. Select the your Desired resolution (if you are interested in voice recordings Primarily and do not want to worry about making sure you have the CUBE aimed "just so" - opt for the lower resolution to save space and capture longer sessions)
When you are out with your family and friends and think you might have a memorable moment, just pull this out of your pocket or purse and set it somewhere. Because it is so small and unobtrusive looking no one will notice a little black cube amongst everything else.
The CUBE is so easy to start recording - push the button once for a silent or twice for videorecording. (NOTE: You can disable the tone That might tip folks off thatthey are "on the record")
This little camera is perfect for capturing special family memories without having to carry around Constantly your cellphone. It is small enough That people are not going to Change Their Behavior When They become aware That a camera is pointed there way - in that way you capture the real personality of your friends and family - not them "hamming it up" or performing for a camera .... To me, That is a truly special thing. Because of the magnet, you can set it up unobtrusively and it is the proverbial fly on the wall.
There are so many situations where this would come in handy - not just for fun.
- If you are a student, you can use it for recording lectures.
- As a musician (albeit - not nearly as talented as my aunt or nephew), I use it for orchestra practice or my music lessons
- I use it while I'm walking with my boys and we are chatting about the day
- Hanging out with the family at the beach around the campfire talking about the days events
- Capturing special occasions like my dad use to
I wish this thing around When my kids were younger - I would have loved to stick it to Their head and see life through Their Eyes.
"Still" image quality is not great - as others have pointed out, it is really "hit or miss" as to Whether you get the shot you think you are going to get the picture quality Tends to be very grainy -. Particularly with indoor light or low-light settings
This really wants to be a video camera.
HOWEVER it does a decent job in a wide variety of situations from minimal light in the house to full sunlight.
I had no problems using it with my Mac - so I tested it on Windows 8 since I have a VMWare partition set up on my Mac as well.
Growing up, polaroids were about instant memories - not having to wait until You Could Get a roll of film developed to see the result.
I think the Cube is carrying on That legacy by creating a little device to allow you to capture all the candid moments in life without having little to say "wait - let me get my phone out - do that again". You just attached them to something, push a button and you will have it for posterity. Like a lot in life, what you capture may be of the more mundane nature. But in a way - that is some of what Becomes of the most special Because That is real life - not the snippets When folks know the camera is on so They are so busy posing and performing. That is why the most memorable photography are candids and Completely unscripted.
The Cube will allow you to capture genuine candid unscripted moments Those.
