Then, when the first Internet connection, you are asked your private address, the indiscretions begin. Second bad news: my address, a street that has existed since 2007, is unknown to the GPS.
In practice, many inaccuracies, roads that do not exist, a hotel located in the parallel street to that indicated, the hotels included in several guides GPS unknown. And occasionally the camera takes you on very small barely passable roads where you may get stuck behind an agricultural convoy.
Very few "unsafe areas" radars are reported, much less than in my old Garmin GPS. And I do not recall having been warned me of a "risk zone", that is to say mobile radars.
At every turn you have to press a button to promise that we will drive safely. Useless, annoying and dangerous.
Very, very slow to start when the battery is discharged. One day it took nearly half an hour before it starts. And then it turns off as soon as you cut the contact. This requires that the engine is running to save the course to be, it is not environmentally friendly and then it may annoy neighbors.
But worst of all is that when you put the unit into operation, that is to say after paying full price, we learn that in order to use all device functions you need your agreement for the device to TomTom returns information pertaining to your privacy. Which ones? It is rather vague, probably driven paths and your home address. BIG BROTHER is watching! Of course neither the Amazon website nor the TomTom site does warn you of this limitation prior to buying. Nor do they mention the price updates elsewhere.
The small folder provides with precise device that can make a free update within 90 days but the TomTom website announces that the purchase of the unit includes free lifetime map. What? Mystery. The folder that is still learning via their website can renew its subscription to LIVE Services (radars, jams). But of course, the folder does not specify the price of subscription ($ 49.99 annually-seem). We must begin the purchase process we finally deigns to inform you of the price. And when you control the device, the Amazon site only says "Live 12 months included," without explaining what it is "live" or the price of subsequent subscriptions or if the device can be used without.
In the final the unit broke down after a few weeks of use. The Amazon site at which I bought at TomTom courageously takes me in case of trouble: and of course the site [...] (like the Amazon site for that matter) does not provide any return process for warranty repair. When we called the number of the service TomTom 0811 February 51 75 (France), voice says that after the beep the call is limited, we hear the "beep", then nobody ever wins.
Amazon finally resumed and refunded me the device (as well as shipping, it's nice), but I had to use a phony excuse to be able to contact them since "warranty repair" does not appear in the list of reasons that allow contact the customer service from Amazon.
Obviously, everything is done to discourage customers to invoke the guarantee.
In summary, my opinion on the TomTom GO 825 Live:
Navigation: MINABLE
Commercially: DISHONEST
Respect for privacy: SCARY
After-Sales Service: ZERO
