And so we lived untroubled until I last Wednesday of the REAL about this new Philips HD7850 Senseo Latte Select stumbled. I've heard of that fleeting Senseo Latte and because I was always the functionality and size of the milk foam unit interested. Here was a demo. As expected, the first removal of the tank designed not so easy. Now I did not realize until this central light lever with which the tank can easily specify "raushebeln" leaves. The insertion is a right Fumelei, but that one can practice. Since I had not informed me by this time on the internet I was not sure if I really need that part. But since it was the last machine I bought the part unceremoniously. At home, I studied only once the entire reviews here on Amazon. Just as it had looked all satisfied.
Only negatives of reviews:
1 coffee is too cold
2. Existing large glasses do not fit under the machine
3. The portions are very small
OK. The point 1. irritated me somewhat. Who wants cold coffee? But since I have also read that one has to rely on the reviews and for that he burned his tongue. I suffered a similar fate. I have to let it cool for a few minutes until this coffee before I can drink it in large gulps. So we need to have no fear that the coffee was not hot enough. Moreover, gives the instructions to do so previously preheat the jars with hot water. Said yes then an additional operation and you is a certain energy. The same waste as with the professional machines in which the cups are on an electric hotplate constantly preheated. But what you do not do anything for coffee gourmets the world :-)
Item 2. I too had the problem with too large lenses. As a trick I have completely removed these adjustable plate. As you win the necessary 5 millimeters - it lacks the drip tray and you have to pick up the rag. I have measured it, it times. My glasses have a height of 12.2 centimeters and a capacity of 300 ml. The go pretty well clean. For a glass with 13.8 centimeters, I must take out the drip tray. So glasses up 13.0 centimeters go almost pure. The path of the height adjustment is 4 centimeters. So from the top edge to bottom edge of drip spout values between about 9 and about 13 centimeters are adjustable.
But what you really want with these big glasses? Which brings us to point 3. The portions are really totally puny! A normal coffee cup by the manufacturer Thomas, level normal 180 ml, is full of cappuccino only 3/4. It looks really shabby, as if whoever had drunk thereof or the water has run out.
I measured it there.
Only the black coffee a lot of adjustment in three steps is possible.
Stage I: 80 ml per description, measured 89 ml
Level II: 125 ml / 130 ml measured
Stage III: 145 ml / 146 ml measured
So even in stage III are missing about 35 ml of coffee in a stink normal coffee cup.
If I'm doing this Thomas Cup brimming fit 210ml pure. If I as the 35 ml depart there are 175 ml or almost the normal 180 ml and the world would be fine. Has there possibly an electronic technician / programmer squandered his table? In a coffee mug of Thomas the way to go 250 ml. But we must at level II the 2-cup button so you have the usual amount of liquid in it!
When Cappuccino can cheat a little when you press again the same in connection to a normal black coffee and still leaves some hot water run through the pad. Before the cup goes on one of the whole machine.
When "cafe latte" So the normal latte can also trick. Completely fill the milk tank, because going in about 140 ml. Then let consecutively run in the glass two "cafe latte". The milk is not quite reached the second round, but the glass is at least decent full.
When Macchiato Latte is but trick really expensive and I wonder if I was not faster with my old method? So making a decent serving Latte Macchiato. Filling and attaching the milk container. Put glass under the machine. Select "Latte Macchiato" and start operation. Milk foam runs into the glass. The machine pauses and waits to milk and foam separate before the coffee enters and these great three layers are formed. In this break I switch off the machine. Glass rausnehmen. Milk container take out, open, fill again, close, inserting. Glass underneath make again. Switch on the machine again. "Latte Macchiato" restart. Possibly one more time let go after only black coffee.
Field trials at six
Today we had four guests. Once cappuccino that's not bad, once fill milk container. Once latte for me because two fillings of the milk container is then already required. Then macchiato latte twice, four fillings. So in total seven times: glass take out, take out milk container, open, fill again, close, inserting. Glass underneath make again. Thank God wanted the other two guests only strongest possible black coffee with some coffee cream, which was not a problem.
Potential for improvement
So I was including high-tech equipment also estimated 20 minutes only concerned with my Senseo Latte and thought to myself: Why am I the milk is not simply side pour so somewhere in the tank, or even better, why is the suction hose of these small milk foam unit not easy so long that I can plug it into a 1 liter Milk Tetra Pack? And why there is no manual mode for me. So where can I just let out one after the other as much milk froth and coffee to the cup or glass is full? Just now I meant to have such KaffePadAutomaten KM 42 discovered by the manufacturer Petra. Since only this hose hanging out and you can seemingly set the amount. - The milk container lid with integrated foam unit is quite fragile. I hope the replacement part has a reasonable price.
- In the cover a lot more electronics in it as with the predecessors of what experience has shown (Saeco, etc.) thus leads to more faults and repairs ..
- Only for black coffee a lot of adjustment in three steps is possible.
--- Dispense coffee amounts are far too low for normal cups and the normal sense. Here Senso must urgently rectify.
--- Milk container is 120 ml at two coffee drinkers in your household already much too small. We were already used to from the water tank in the original Senseo.
I'm not sure if I would moment the Senseo Latte Select Buy me in this version again. The long-term test by the use of the machine from my wife is the show. As an improved Senseo Latte Select 2 might look I have described above.

Addendum:
Meanwhile, I had to send in the machine twice unfortunately.
The first after a good six months in June 2009 when I loudly Calc-Clean indicator had to descale the first time by the engine. For descaling you have to remove the milk unit and insert a blue "spare wheel" which is tucked at the back under the water tank. The blue trunk is officially called Calc-Clean Accessories (CCZ) and contains apparently a magnet so that the electronics of the machine detects whether the CCZ back sitting in storage or has just been taken. This is therefore a distinction whether a pressure on the Calc-Clean button flushes only the milk unit with water or the descaling program (duration 35 minutes) will be played.
After Entkalkungsdurchlauf with about 50 ml descaling solution based on one tankful can you flush the machine again with clear water. Have all done but the machine was blinking on and was no longer to be used. Assumed a software error in the descaling program. So plug out, wait 5 minutes, plug it back in and ..immer still flashing? Then so there will be any sequence for resetting. In about with "press power button and hold the button, then and then plug power cord". But I did not find the combination ... as well as where you might have to press and hold two or three buttons in a certain order in six different keys. The instructions say to nothing.
On the Internet I found nothing in 2009, so call hotline. The knowledge that guarantees, I thought. But alas no, the nice lady on the phone could only organize the repatriation me. The machine was brought and delivered after 10 days.
It was again everything was broken but that could and / or would not tell me. A positive side effect. The above criticism of me amount of water was apparently increased! Now the cups were significantly better full! Toll, apparently there is also a coffee maker with a firmware and updates which have been played!
Since we have very hard water we bought to prevent a Brita water filter (about 20 euros) to do so. Now the Senseo was filled only with filtered water from the Brita jug. This is not a 100% descaling but a noticeable filtering and the Senso is spared.
Then the second defect in July 2010, ie 21 months after the date of purchase. This time no longer worked the black coffee. The machine heats up, it burned all the lights, turned a one or two cups, nothing happens. Only the Aufheizlampe starts flashing again. It is not a black coffee. The dairy unit is working properly.
Again, I used only a pick-up the hotline. So machine sending the second time. The Senso is after 10 days back, everything works but what was broken wants me back no Betrayed. It could be as simple good service.
Machine run until November 2011. Now the milk foam is no longer. More specifically, it seems to be the lack of steam. The Senso blows the steam back through a pressure relief valve back into the water tank. Front no milk is sucked in and therefore do not foamed. I clean several times to complete frother and build everything cleanly. But the machine will no longer suck the milk. The black coffee is fine.
So I try the part to descaling, although the Calc-Clean display screen is blank. It will be interesting whether then goes back no more ...
So, once decalcified. The program then automatically rinsed. So I can make any two Entkalkungsläufe succession. Then just three times rinsing. Und..Dampf going again, so was the nozzle just somehow limed. In a new ...
Known issues:
- The Internet is reported by rusty float switches in the tank. The float gets stuck. The machine indicates too little water. That was a bad batch that will be exchanged even after the guarantee. Free hotline 0800 000 7520th
- And there's apparently a software version where the Calc-Clean button must be pressed and held. Then switch on the machine and the descaling process should work.
- One also describes the device reset with: mains plug out, power button 15 seconds, and plug in again (?). Habs not tried. My software version seems to be OK now.

PS: Thank you for the many positive comments. Anyway, I'm not a math teacher, as expected, but a technician. The milliliter I measured with the digital scale in grams and converted with a factor of 1. So 1 gram of water / coffee is about 1 ml.
