The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox (Paperback)

Customer Review

Second novel by this author I read even a good surprise. These decidedly Irish authors have a special sensitivity when they approach contained long suffering.
When Iris of a psychiatric hospital receives a phone call that informs her that her great-aunt interned must be committed to another facility or collected at home, Iris flabbergasted. She has never heard of this great-aunt Esme who was interned for sixty years, his family has nen never mentioned, not even her grandmother with Esme's sister. Iris decided to collect Esme home while waiting to find a better solution. With Esme family history will be unveiled gradually in all its sufferings, its hypocrisies and also all his great cowardice.

This is a poignant story that mixes snatches past and present, childhood and old age that blur the limits of consciousness and memories in the minds a bit confused old lady. Maggie OFarrell again shows what can manipulate time with much grace and virtuosity. This book by another author profoundly moving story about family and family ties.
