I read this book Because Ira Glass (This American Life - NPR) featured the story on one of his shows. The feature was wonderful, mostly Because Glass told the story with a straight face. When I listened to the show, I thought thatthere are things you can intellectualize a little too much - and this is one of them. Poor Dick! It's Obvious That Chris Kraus is an exhibitionist who married Sylvere for his accent. ... And she's like a junior high school kid who is saying "look at me." She is pathetic and sick and who cares about the garbage she's writing to Dick. OK, so she wants to be on intellectual. Tell someone who cares. I suppose the book would be interesting to mental health professionals. The only payoff in the book what the letter did Dick writes to Sylvere.
