Below I would like to describe a few personal impressions - I will not write a review.
The 'pocket camera' to meet various requirements:
a) data in the RAW format
b) a reasonable image quality in more demanding lighting conditions
c) flexible manual controls similar to the 600D
At the image quality can not be faulted in terms sharpness / resolution. It is sufficient in any case for cuttings / magnifications or large-format (eg double-page spread in the photo book) printouts.
(I do this on the relatively BQ of 600 with different lenses fixed.)
A series of shots in the evening Cologne Cathedral then showed in practice how well the combination of optics / stabilizer, sensor and processor together plays when the light is less. The recordings made without a tripod are sharp and noise. Of course, the processing of raw data offers many possibilities, but already the JPGs are impressive - as they come out of the camera.
Alternative offers in such situations (or then on the evening Christmas market with many strong light / dark areas) the HDR mode. The camera accepts this automatic recording and processing of 3 immediate succession occurring recordings of different exposure.
Again, the results were 'free hand' re amazing.
(HDR mode offers different levels / strengths in terms of the introduced effect These range not recognizable to exaggerated by almost;. But just HDR has much to do with personal pleasure, because you should try something in advance.)
My Speedlite 430EXII works seamlessly with the G16. It looks a bit strange from (the flash is larger than the camera), but it works. But I have found no way to control the external flash unleashed on the built-in flash.
The issues raised in another review tint for shooting with the built-in flash, I have not found.
The flash automatically moves the way in any mode by switching from (what I like because I do not like working with built-in flash) - not even in automatic mode. It must therefore always if necessary be extended (by manual release) or alternatively remain open all the time. Work on this should think, if one once (always reluctant) 'gives in automatic mode the camera.
The display is built big and bright and clear and firm. It can not unfold and adjust. In practice I have this so far but also not missing. Maybe I am missing the applications for it. But should be noted that the display has a in my opinion really good lateral view (wide viewing angle both up / down and right / left). Thus, for example, the readability diagonal 'at arms length over NOPF' absolutely no problem.
Although I almost without exception work in the 600 with the viewfinder, will probably be mainly used the screen for shooting in the G16. The viewfinder of the G16's (design) quite small but clean runs with the zoom and also offers me as eyeglass wearers the full field of view.
(Could not be basic information such as aperture / show time?)
Nett I find the spirit level on the display.
At times, the horizon tilts at my slightly skewed - because that's certainly helpful ...
The operating options are flexible. So can be, inter alia, the functions of the front and rear control dial to adjust. (For example, ISO to the rear wheel: in certain situations certainly helpful, but also dangerous if you no longer thinks about ... and adjusted by chance ...)
But who decides on the G16, looking anyway ... no one-button operation
As a storage medium I have a Transcend 32GB UHS (600x) used. I have the impression that the speed of this card also comes the swift transfer the files to your PC benefit.
Supplied with no software is included; this one has even download from the Internet.
(... Is probably the spirit of the times ... - for household use the software, however, is sufficient)
From the size I want to personally do not always have to reassign the G16. Jacket, belt or (wide) pocket are only just made yet. Therefore, Canon could consider the camera enclosed with a wrist strap. The included neck shoulder strap works of course, but is not overly long. As a shoulder strap he's too short.
And what really bothers me?
You can not (!) Create manually, but only choose between daily and monthly 'automatically' folder. This may sound petty, but bothers me tremendously.
(These are just a few lines of code - and you can separate museum, boat tour and dinner nice ...)
I have got what I wanted and did not expect.
