The first album of Alabama Shakes, "Boys & Girls", was worth especially for the discovery of the mad voice of Brittany Howard, but suffered weaklings songs, and an obvious lack of originality. The "Shakes" were obviously aware of the problem, which left three good years elapse before publishing it "Sound & Color" much sharper in compositions, especially boosted by a rather insane production, which propels each piece with a power, and a rather stunning sound creativity. At that point, this time it is the song of Brittany who, at least at first glance, appears to be the weak link of the album (a shame, anyway!) Making use of an almost permanent falsetto, hidden behind sound effects a bit exhausting, surrounded by choirs supported this magical voice is seen here treated as an instrument, at the same level such as the guitar. This is undoubtedly unsettling before, over the tracks, you become familiar with this new Alabama Shakes, bolder, more rock too. And we eventually enjoy "Sound & Color" at fair value.
