Content, the 128-page book is divided into three sections. Starting is with some high-quality concept drawings that were used in part already in advertising and as a cover art and could thus be known. Then comes the part with design and design drawings. This section takes up the bulk of the book. Many pictures of monsters, each character classes, weapons and landscapes, even a few artworks to not in-game content have found their way into the book. Finally follows a developer interview with the director and some designers of Dark Souls. The twelve-page interview (komlett in English) this is primarily concerned with the development and elaboration of the world of Dark Souls. Content will be discussed environments, monsters and NPCs and holds some very interesting background information.
Further explanations and notes to the drawings, however, you are looking mostly in vain. The individual sections are only started from brief introductions, but the drawings have to speak for themselves. Here I would have expected more. The artwork is good to look at and covers the game from the content well, but to me, the impression remains that may have even more from the book extract.
Fans of Dark Souls and lovers gloomy fantasy art, but can not make vie wrong with Dark Souls Designworks. The excellent workmanship and paper quality are the great drawings justice. When Title Designworks I would, however, looking forward also some earlier drafts and sketches from the early years of development, they are virtually non-existent, but my personal taste. Most will enjoy probably "finished" at the pictures and get their costs. The opportunity for improvement, there is still the artbook for appearing in March Dark Souls II.
