According to Apple: Compatible with iPhone 4 and 4S, iPod touch (4th generation with retina cameras and 2), iPad 2 and new iPad (3rd Generation)
/! \ I tested the accessory to an iPhone 4 (thus similar to 4S and iPod touch), but it works very few applications support TV output! I absolutely recommend.
After buying a new iPad 32GB especially for store movies, so I bought this accessory to allow me to play movies on large screen TV.
Except that all is not so simple with Apple ...
Here are my impressions:
The finish:
Of good quality, not messy, white is nice, the cable is robust. But touching closer plastic "crack" and for that price it's distressing.
The connection:
A cable longer then transport it would be much easier to integrate a plug on the iPad, but for the thickness of worries and the desire to increase profits, the Cupertino company has not considered useful to do that. Short.
The connection is simply done and we add the HDMI Cable above, if necessary is added (again!) The charging cable. Which ultimately encumbers too!
The connection:
This is displayed in mirror mode and is the drama! Let me explain: we see on screen 2 huge black bands on the left and right sides.
Movies
What about movies on the big screen! Well it does not work, the format remains the same!
After it's up to you to find the compatible app, look in the description of apps where TV OUT is noted or assumed television (other names too). I bought 3 applications of video player, I can tell you that none of them work in big screen, save your money: test the free or lite app, they are just the job for display with black bars, paid add more or less useful features. But to date, none allow the use in large screen (too much!), Especially as games do.
Compatible applications ... or not:
Everything works in mirror mode, except apps subject to copyright such as TV channels.
For games like Aspahlt for example, works very well, is responsive and pleasant, the definition is very beautiful and even takes the length of the screen. Attention some games allow a large screen display.
What good is it to transfer on a TV? ... I can not see. After everyone has their use.
Strengths:

Weak points:
- ... With black bands on the sides
- Perfectible finish
- Too cables
- Using unsuitable movies
- Available in white (the HDMI cables are black, also the tv and iPad are mostly black, weird right?)
- Too expensive!
- Not for iPhone and iPod touch
To conclude:
Do not buy this adapter to watch movies on the big screen, it does not work completely, again I thought that with the Retina display of the new iPad would be best defined on TV, it is not.
In the end, I do not see the benefit of this adapter for use called "private" for professional it can be interesting with the keynote (not tested). So useless and not recommended.
