First of the most important, the image quality: a quantum leap for K100D Super and in many areas (eg noise performance, dynamics) comparable or better than K20D
More obvious improvements:
Much more reliable automatic WB
Speed (depending on the store except, however, of card) is fine
Excellent low-light results
the image stabilizer seems - according to initial tests - compared to K20 a bit to work better
internal HDR function (also the K20D, but in the price range of the KX my knowledge is nowhere else available)
Video function - if mans needs
Using normal AA batteries is no real advantage for me; proprietary batteries K20D also cost only a few bucks and keep very long through. With the firmware update of the KX battery charge status indicator appears to have become better.
Due to the many automatic programs, the KX is aimed clearly at DSLR beginners and intermediates.
Among the downsides:
Gradually Pentax approaches in the housing quality of the plastic boxes from other manufacturers. I call names deliberately not, otherwise here feels again someone stepped on the toes. No comparison to the solid housings the K100D and even more the K20D; this seems to be built for eternity.
Cheap affects the kit lens with plastic connection, even the sun visor has been saved; The picture quality, however, has suffered not recognizable under the cost-cutting measures.
As the old kits are much more stable construction and more, the WR, which was with my K20D. Since there are - not only in weight - worlds apart.
Operation against K20D clearly cumbersome
The red AF indicator in the viewfinder I miss sorely.
LV is not to be used particularly in low light.
The viewfinder of the KX is for me as a spectacle wearers - turn compared to the K20D - suboptimal.
A small minor point, but maybe not quite unimportant to some: the shutter sound of the KX is unmistakable; the K20D makes it before, how discreet it can go.
My personal conclusion: The KX is unquestionably worth a recommendation; Your trump card is the top-quality image even with the kit lens. The price for this is tangible savings in processing and operation. I was not previously used by Pentax. That's why only 4 instead of 5 stars.
Personally I use therefore there still robust K20D; the smaller and lighter KX is good for the inside, celebrations, parties, etc. In the holidays I will not take, because I trust it more on the K20D.
