Quality in optics and mechanics

I confess in advance that is on my purchased for FUJIX system 2/12 not "Walimex-pro", but "Samyang", the manufacturer's name. In the United States would "Rokinon" it stood. The former and the latter are only label variants of the same product. In this respect, I feel here certainly called to give a review for Walimex 2/12.

The mechanical processing of the lens presents itself in my view faultless. Perhaps the distance ring could be a bit smoother. The aperture ring has detents for half stages, the point is not just pointing to the appropriate Belendenanzeige but 1mm next to it, but you know what is meant. The detent aperture ring I find the right place. The bayonet is as easy as my original Fuji lenses and also has the same minimum radial clearance. The lens hood can be aufbajonettieren and perfectly fits the design of the lens body. If you should assign a grade for it design, it may be only the "1" in my view! However fiddly is the front cover cap; I have replaced it with a Nikon, which can be snapped easily.

The look I could not compare with the all too familiar for the X-System lenses Fuji 2.8 / 14 and Zeiss 2.8 / 12th I can only say compared to my other Fujix lenses that images stand out with Samyang in no way striking out the Fuji-images, either in color (possibly barely noticeable cooler), still in sharpness or contrast. Visually, it fits! The images appear in the full screen viewing is always clear and sharp.

But one thing I would like to reiterate clearly indicate, although it every buyer should know: It is a purely mechanical lens with a purely mechanical connection. Because nothing is changed to data with the camera body and you have to focus manually. Is the latter well? First, I had let myself calm of the testimony of a set at YouTube videos on the lens that is set in this on 1m from f 4 practically everything is sharp in the picture. Sounds good - but not quite right. It's amazing how much can be blurred in the picture with this method. So: Peaking Switch and especially the enlargement to the (here unemployed) focus-focus area. No, this is then the focus is still not as good as once before in 1987, when the older ones among us still sharp featured with microprism ring and cut image, but it's reasonably well. With some training you get out the correct focus. Why you should do this circumstance manual focus? Because the alternatives of Zeiss and Fuji roughly two to three times depending on the cost price, the mechanical design of the Samyang / Walimex is simply class and let the image left nothing to be desired results!
